Fabrication Weld Technician III

This position provides a technical knowledge and leadership skill to assemble high-quality white bodies, comps, and parts using robotics and automation, with a foremost goal to mature the drawing for a manufacturable automobile.

At Honda, our associates take pride in their responsibilities. A typical day for a Fabrication Weld Technician III will include:






Project Management



  • Support group leader in prototype fabrication project management and research activities includes schedule, manpower and budget.
  • Support research and development of new material joining technology related to the future body in white construction.
  • Support major fixed asses purchases for the weld group includes planning, budget, justification, and installation.



Robotic / Automation Technician



  • Create, modify, and execute robot programs with various types of material joining technologies.
  • Perform virtual robot feasibility study and offline programming for existing and new material joining technologies.
  • Develop robot programs with advanced techniques and language independent model. Design error proof and recovery methods.
  • Perform basic integration of robots and other auxiliary devices with machine control systems.


Troubleshoot complex programming, electrical and mechanical issues and perform major preventative maintenance on robot cells.

Fabrication Technician



  • Support planning of prototype fabrication project. Lead a team of contingent associates in fabrication of body in white and assemblies.
  • Verify correct assembly of weld fixtures for prototype fabrication. Analyse CMM data and adjust tooling to improve white body and assembly accuracy.
  • Support planning of special research work requests and lead a team of full time or contingent associates to perform the task.
  • Review 3D data and print and detect any physical manufacturability issues during the build. Document and report design concerns to the product development team.
  • Inspect and ensure accurate location of all material joining applications and perform basic weld, part and assembly quality check.
  • Ensure all safety guidelines are always followed and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining the inventory of assigned tools and supplies withing weld group.


Support other fabrication groups or HDMA production facilities according to the company needs.

Qualifications




  • High School diploma or GED
  • Associates degree in science or engineering preferred
  • 10+ years related work experience



Knowledge and Skills




  • Proficiency with Fanuc Material Handling programming
  • Proficiency with Fanuc SpotTool programming with servo gun
  • Knowledge of Fanuc ArcTool programming with servo torch
  • Knowledge of Fanuc DispenseTool programming
  • Proficiency with Fnauc RoboGuide offline programming
  • Proficiency with FARO arm operation and Polyworks measurement software
  • Ability to perform manual gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process.
  • Ability to perform manual gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) process.
  • Ability to perform manual resistance spot welding process.
  • Knowledge of dispense process
  • Knowledge of mechanical joining process (hemming, SPR, FDS)
  • Ability to use power tools
  • Ability to use heavy equipment (forklift, crane)
  • Proficient with CATIA V5 design operation
  • Extensive electrical and mechanical maintenance skill
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)



Additional Position Information



  • 40 percent desk work
  • 40 percent on the shop floor
  • 20 percent meeting attendance
