The Bioengineering Division is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join a team developing cutting-edge biotechnological solutions for our Synthetic Biology R&D program area, working in a new and expanded 13,000 square foot BSL-2 laboratory in our Kendall Square location. The ideal candidate will be fluent in protein biochemistry, with background and experience working with various classes of proteins. This technical position requires bench work as well as collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to analyze experimental results, present findings, and brainstorm new ideas. The position also requires teamwork, tenacity and attention to detail. Required:

Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related biological science field, with 5+ years of research expertise in protein biochemistry (including mutagenesis, expression, and purification strategies)
• Experience with troubleshooting and optimizing protein expression, solubility, and stability
• Expertise with a range of analytical techniques in protein biochemistry
• Experience in protein modeling and protein structure-function analysis and software
• Interest in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and willingness to brainstorm in topics outside your area of research
• Ability to work independently, but as part of a wider team
• Willingness to mentor both senior and junior research colleagues
• Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills
• Interest in writing proposals/grants and participating in the formation of new programs to solve the nation's most challenging problems

Preferred:

• Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas in proposal/grant formats
