#1! That's the ranking that Fast Company gave Novartis in their 2018 list of 'The World's Most Innovative Companies'. The Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is the innovation engine of Novartis. We collaborate across scientific and organization boundaries, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.

Millions of people die from chronic lung diseases each year. Translational scientists at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research seek to better understand chronic diseases and ultimately discover and develop transformative new medicines. We are seeking a motivated scientist to join the Disease Area translational group, who will be part of a team working to understand the genetic and molecular underpinnings of chronic lung disease by developing translatable in-vitro and ex-vivo assays for target discovery and validation and contributing to the establishment of a biorepository of human lung tissues for use in assay development and target validation.

The ideal candidate for this position has strong skills in cell and molecular biology, with experience developing in vitro/ex- vivo models for target validation. They will have a proven track record of independent work and creativity, and a history of success in cross-functional teams.

If you have collaborative nature, passion for understanding human data to inform future assays, dedication to teamwork across an organization and exceptional organizational skills, we invite you to apply.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Acquire, prepare and process human tissues (eg. lung) to expand biorepository efforts

- Perform purification and culture of primary human cell types

- Participate in complex assay development for target Identification/validation and for testing therapeutic efficacy of compounds at different stages

- Collaborate while working in a matrix environment to support drug discovery projects within the respiratory therapeutic area

- Perform data analysis and keep excellent laboratory, data recording and documentation practices

- Present plan/results/next steps in lab and department meetings

- The candidate may participate in alliances with external partners at top healthcare institutions, with the opportunity to publish your work
