Farm Assistant (Full-time)

Farm Assistant (Full-time). Monticello seeks a Farm Assistant who will be responsible for helping maintain a vegetable market garden to produce crops for Monticello's Farm Table Cafe and value-added products for Monticello's Shop. With direction from the Director of Viticulture and Farming and the Farm Associate, the Farm Assistant will help manage the growing, harvesting, cleaning, and proper storage of vegetables and seeds for the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. The farm assistant will also help keep detailed crop records, assist nursery staff from the Center for Historic Plants with plant sales and other public events, help maintain the Foundation's apiary, and work with the public on behalf of Monticello in special programs as needed.

This position requires experience with farming and maintaining crops, knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, knowledge or an interest in historic plants and native species, and the ability to operate a variety of farm equipment safely. This position also requires extensive manual labor and working outside in all weather conditions and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. This position is considered essential and will require work outside regular business hours due to inclement weather and special events. A high school degree is required, and an associate's degree in agriculture or a related field is desired. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position. Position open until filled.
