Job Description

The Workforce Planner will drive workforce planning processes at SVB to help us develop the right workforce and talent plans to deliver on our overall business strategy. The Workforce Planner will be a member of a high-impact team (e.g., Center of Excellence/"CoE") and lead global, cross-functional efforts involving business leaders, HR business partners, group finance officers and other key stakeholders to develop and manage long-range strategic workforce plans and near-term headcount forecasts. Workforce Planners will manage a portfolio of SVB business units to ensure all are covered.

These roles are part of a new department. The goal is to create an industry-leading workforce planning capability within two years where:

  • The Workforce Planning team provides executive leadership with the information and insights they need to set and implement workforce plans to deliver on business strategy and provide a clear view of future workforce requirements

  • Each business unit captures the value of workforce planning by anticipating talent alignment gaps and develops a range of strategies specific to the business unit to close prioritized gaps (e.g., build / buy / borrow)

  • A centralized workforce planning platform (analytics, systems, and standard, repeatable processes) is leveraged across the enterprise

  • We can model talent scenarios based on potential business and environmental factors

  • The Workforce Planning CoE continues to build on the maturity of its workforce planning function

Essential Functions

  • Workforce Profiles and Analytics - For assigned business units, using the Visier platform, develop and distribute monthly Workforce Profiles (metrics and reports to provide line of sight to organizational size, shape, costs, etc.) which will be the basis for the planning efforts described below. In addition, use Visier workforce analytics to analyze, diagnose and troubleshoot workforce and organizational issues. MFB: Once Workforce Profiles are developed, what independent judgment is required? Workforce Profiles are refreshed monthly and distributed to key stakeholders; the Workforce Planner will highlight progress to plan and material changes that impact the workforce planning process. Escalate and collaborate with business, HR and Finance partners to design and deliver corrective solutions. MFB: How much of this is "design" versus asking what information business partners would like? This is a collaborative process - the Workforce Planner will provide insights and where appropriate, recommendations to the business, HR and Finance partners but the ultimate decision on action is taken by the business.

  • Strategic Resource Planning (SRP) - For assigned business units, lead the annual SRP process, including: session materials preparation and distribution; facilitation of strategic resource planning sessions; gathering and synthesis of feedback and input; production of three-year Strategic Workforce Plans.

  • Monthly workforce planning - For assigned business units, lead monthly workforce planning sessions, leveraging above-described monthly workforce profiles, with business leaders, HRBPs, FP&A, Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Procurement to review historical data and trends and discuss future expectations of talent and workforce-related activity. Analyze, interpret all gathered workforce-related information to derive the most realistic headcount forecast for the upcoming periods and enter/manage within Visier Planning.

  • Measure and track workforce plan performance. Provide data including scorecards and ad hoc analyses to business, HR and Finance leaders including insightful analysis to inform decision making and increase workforce productivity.
