Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of IT, this senior position exercises independent judgment, and strategic leadership to oversee the planning and operation of the group charged with provisioning, supporting, and implementing data production and reporting systems for Echo.

Principal Accountability | Data Engineering & Delivery

* Manage a team of senior\principal data engineers who support data operations including OLTP systems, reporting platform, and data engineering
* Clear alignment between Data Platform features and services with Product features delivery roadmap
* Lead establishment and provide oversight for operating and technology standards for the data team
* Command broad awareness of organizational priorities
* Partner with key IT and business stakeholders to provide engineering support to meet current and future business needs related to data lifecycle and business intelligence
* Oversee problem identification and resolution process for data services and systems
* Establish performance and operational metrics to continuously monitor and improve data services
* Exhibit an analytical approach to monitoring and reporting by identifying potential customer impacting issues as soon as they arise
* Ensure team proactively designing, developing, deploying data services, ensuring that services are highly available, resilient, and highly performing for enterprise-wide use
* Define and manage SLAs for all data sets and processes running in production and truly understand the business needs

Principal Accountability | Business Intelligence reporting

* Manage a team of mostly principal level data engineers who support data engineering for OLAP\Analytics systems
* Proactively drive the vision for BI and Data Warehousing across the company, and define and execute on a plan to achieve that vision
* Architect, manage and own full new data pipeline from acquisition of raw data, through cleansing, indexing, search architecture, application work to deliver data to end users
* Work with end users and other subject matter experts to define reporting needs, identify data sources and ETL\ELT processes to deliver reliable and accurate business reports
* Works proactively with business stakeholders in determining best data architecture implementation for providing best quality data possible for our reporting needs, operational\historical\trends

Principal Accountability | Team\People Management
* Remove impediments to team progress, leads by example, including escalation management
* Exhibit sound professional judgment in managing team priorities and conflict resolution
* Coach team members on cross functional team collaboration. Enable close cooperation within the team and across the organization
* Manage and maintain team backlog and priorities with Product organization leadership
* Translate strategic goals of the department into executable direction for the team
* Schedule and deliver improvements/changes from multiple, disparate teams by building relationships with key members of each team
* Monitor team progress and health through daily stand-up meetings, retrospectives and monthly prioritization
* Ensure necessary follow ups with team members are promptly communicated
* Bring clarity to complex issues through organized communication
* Understand and plan career paths that are unique to individuals yet aligned to the business
* Ensure individuals are getting necessary training and are continuously improving
* Set expectations on individual roles within a team and the organization
* Manage team schedule allowing for time off, work from home and other entitlements
* Set team member performance and work goals, conduct performance reviews
* Monitor and provide frequent feedback regarding individual performance via weekly one on one meetings with direct reports
* Foster Echo core values and goals among team members
* Ensure maximum team retention

Desirable Skill | IT Change Management

* Weigh in on Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews
* Manage relationships and coordinate work between teams involved in changes
* Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
* Collaborate with Service Desk Management on establishing a one-voice communication path to Echo stakeholders, including shared escalation procedures and definition of an emergency release
* Operate at an advisory level, consistently interacting with IT and line-of-business management.

Position Requirements

* Bachelor's Degree in MIS, MBA, or equivalent years of experience
* AWS Solution Architect certification
* Proven record of delivering highly complex, data driven solutions, with Near Real Time (eventing\messaging) and well-versed in "Service Bus" (architecture)
* Scrum or Lean Certification (CSM, CSPO, Lean/Six Sigma) highly regarded
* 6-7+ years of experience working on software development projects as a Software Engineer, QA Analyst, Product Manager, Scrum Master or similar
* 2-4+ years contributing on an Agile team
* 5+ years technical leadership experience
* 4+ years managing people
* Proven track record (5+ years) of working in a fast paced, time-sensitive projects that require:
o Clear and timely communication of key information deemed critical to project success
o Managing software risk
o Balancing priorities
o Going above and beyond the requirement of the role
o Mentoring team members
o Articulating technical information to a non-technical audience
o Leading without authority
* Good understanding of any commercial-grade database systems. Microsoft SQL Server experience highly regarded.
* Experience developing solutions or contributing to development leveraging:
o Object-Oriented programming techniques (.Net\Java)
o AWS Solution Architect certification highly regarded
o Software Development Lifecycles
o Unit Test Techniques
o Debugging/Analytical Techniques

Work environment/physical demands summary:

This job operates in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties.
