Job Summary

The Project Policy Analyst I will, with training from the PI, Dr. Mica Estrada and direct supervision, learn how to support project management and research implementation for federal grants; learn how to assist in supporting the PI in maintaining healthy communication and coordination with collaborators and other stakeholders; and provide assistance in the dissemination of findings.
Entry-level professional with limited prior experience; learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity; works on assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. Employees at this level are expected to acquire the skills and knowledge to perform more advanced work following an agreed upon time in position, through defined training and development planning.
Job includes training on how to implement and support both quantitative and qualitative research projects

Department Description

The Institute for Health & Aging (IHA) is an organized research unit at UCSF. The work of the Institute includes extensive and successful research, training and public service in the areas of aging, health, and health policy.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in social science discipline and/or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Familiarity with general and research-specific computer application programs (MS word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook; SPSS).
  • Capacity to learn communication and interpersonal skills to exchange information effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Basic skills to analyze and research information and learn to synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Capacity to learn program and project management skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and with other project team members.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working with Qualtrics
  • Willingness to learn how to present research results at professional conferences
  • Some familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative data analysis and management
