Greenville Metals is a unique metallurgical resource with the ability to partner strategically with customers. We provide technology-based solutions and services to companies around the globe which require air melt grade master alloys and conversion products. Greenville Metals produces metallurgical products using many techniques including electric arc furnace, AOD, induction furnaces, and various crushing, grinding, and sizing equipment. We use nickel, cobalt, and iron-based (particularly stainless steel) alloys to produce products such as ingots, pigs, shot, and powder.

Job Description

Summary

To provide accurate and precise chemical analyses at Greenville Metals, Inc. as necessary to support the business activities. Analyses performed will include in-process, control and final sample determinations for melting and/or processing, a variety of incoming materials, outside analytical customer samples, and environmental analyses as required to meet the business, corporate, and EPA requirements. The objective is to provide timely, cost effective, and accurate analytical results using established or developmental procedures. The analyst is responsible for sample preparation, analysis/determination, calculation and reporting of accurate, quality results.

Essential Functions

General:

*Follow all safety procedures within the laboratory and plant operations at all times.

*Perform other job functions as assigned by Lab Manager.

*Maintain a clean and organized workspace.

*Effective and professionally communicate all aspects of laboratory functions, both internally and externally.

*Effectively troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance for all laboratory equipment to minimize instrument downtime and its impact on production.

* Maintain all records, including logbooks, documentation, and appropriate computer backup.

*Maintain consumable stock levels to ensure continual operation in the laboratory at all times.

*Assist with method and product development and instrument calibration to support analyses.

*Maintain received and prepared samples in an organized manner for future reference.

*Sample, reagent and standard preparation.

Core:

*Perform chemical analysis by varying methodologies including XRF, Leco, AA, ICP, non-chemical testing such as particle size analysis, etc.

*Calculate percent compositions for various reference procedures performed in the laboratory and those generated via instrument calibration curves for various types of instrumentation.

*Calculate chemical concentrations of standards, reagents, etc.

*Perform manual reporting of analytical results when required.

* Perform data entry into any of the electronic means utilized by GMI, including Excel spreadsheets and Access databases, the ERP system, etc.

*Prepare computer-generated certificates of analysis either manually or through the ERP system.

Education and Experience

*Chemistry degree preferred and at least one year of work experience.
