The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Software Engineer I - Mobile Application Development.

As an integral member of the Corporate Application Development team, the Software Engineer I designs, develops, implements and supports of mission-critical mobile Apps. Exercises responsibility for developing global-scale mobile solutions utilizing the latest technologies in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Works with business stakeholders, business leaders, and subject matter experts from cross-functional teams to gather and document application requirements to meet business needs. Utilizes those requirements to design, develop, test and implement enterprise mobile apps that align with the goals of the organization. Plays multiple roles regarding all aspects of application development including requirements gathering, feature design, UI and database development, application coding, implementation and deployment.

Key Responsibilities include:

System Development & Implementation:

  • Develops Enterprise mobile apps from inception through the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) by evaluating client needs; analyzing requirements and developing and implementing the solution.
  • Designs, codes, tests and documents new applications or enhancements to existing applications.
  • Assists in providing programming estimates for new, or changes to, existing project requests.
  • Regularly meets with users, vendors, and IS staff to develop/modify system specifications.
  • Provides technical assistance, as required, to team members and other I.S. employees.
  • Supervises development of test data, system testing and documentation for all phases of the application development life cycle.
  • Performs Q/A on application functionality.
  • Researches and resolves implementation-related Customer Support Center Tickets.
  • Adheres to appropriate UHS Project Management standards.
  • Ensures strict adherence to work plans, reporting all serious deviations to management.
  • Oversees the training of users in operating procedures for application.

System Maintenance/Support:

  • Monitors, researches and resolves maintenance or enhancement related Customer Support Center Tickets including major application upgrades.
  • Adheres to UHS Service Level and Change Management Policies.
  • Establishes and maintains regular communications with user community.

Administration and Oversight:

  • Effectively trains analysts in performance of their duties as required.
  • Provides technical support, advice and guidance to other team members as required.
  • Maintains Service Excellence principles.
  • Prepares and promptly submits all routine and special reports.
  • Interviews applicants for vacant positions as needed using appropriate interview techniques.
  • Contributes to performance evaluation of junior staff members as needed.
  • Keeps management well informed of activities, needs, problems.
  • Reviews and reports progress on an ongoing basis
  • Assists other Software Engineers when necessary. Shares experience/expertise with other team members.
Qualifications

Position Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • College degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and a minimum of 1 year of experience in in the following disciplines.
  • Mobile Web Development experience
  • Strong software development skills, including Object Oriented design principles and MVC/MVVM design patterns.
  • MS SQL Server Database programming coding including the use of stored procedures, functions, triggers and ad hoc queries.
  • Knowledge in RESTful API, Web.API and JSON.
  • Knowledge and Mobile App Security and secure communication protocols.
  • Application design and development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Cross-Platform Mobile Development technologies such as: Xamarin, React Native or Ionic
  • Familiarity with iOS or Android development technologies such as:
    • Android - J2EE/J2ME, Android SDK, SQLite/MySQL, Eclipse
    • iOS - Objective-C, iOS SDK, Xcode, Swift.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of current mobile app development methodologies. Knowledge of system application implementation, enhancement and support methods and practices. Knowledge of computer systems analysis and programming techniques and procedures, including: consulting with users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications; design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing, coding, debugging, or modification of computer systems or programs based on and related to user design specifications.
  • Knowledge of project management methods. Working knowledge of project development life cycle including requirements gathering, analysis, writing specifications, design, implementation, testing, delivery and post-live support.
  • Excellent analytical and technical troubleshooting skills. Ability to work both as part of a team and independently. Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain cooperative relationships with customers and team members. Ability to work on multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of IS standards and quality methods and metrics. General familiarity of user business practices, concepts and terminology sufficient to support the applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to clearly convey and assimilate information, and prepare detailed specifications and documentation. Ability to multi-task while effectively managing time and meeting deadlines.
