MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
You must meet all the following qualifications, and the recruitment and examination process will evaluate if you meet the following criteria:

Current Certification:

  1. Currently possess a Basic Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training "DPSST" certification OR other equivalent local, state or federal certification as a Police Officer or Sheriff's Deputy;
  2. Have completed a Field Training Program;

Background Investigation: Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation, and meet the standards set by the State of Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).

Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County's policy.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD IN THE HIRING PROCESS:

All applicants must successfully complete the following:

STEP 1: Complete Your Application in NEOGOV - Complete Your Employment Application in NEOGOV - All applicants are processed through NEOGOV which means you MUST be registered within the system. Once you are registered, you must complete an application for this recruitment.

STEP 2: Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) - Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) - Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the Lateral Jail Deputy will be required to complete an online PHQ in its' entirety. A link to the PHQ will be sent to you from Guardian Alliance Technologies on behalf of Washington County Sheriff's Office and must be completed within 10 days from the issuance of the link. You will need to follow the instructions provided in the e-mail. If you met the minimum qualifications and have not received the e-mail from Guardian Alliance Technologies, please check your Spam/Junk mail folders.

STEP 3: Physical Abilities Test (PAT) - The PAT is an obstacle course simulating a foot pursuit which tests endurance and must be completed in 6 minutes or less. In order to meet Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) physical standards, applicants must be able to pass one of the following physical ability tests:

  • National Testing Network's PAT or ORPAT; OR
  • The Washington County Sheriff's Office PAT; OR
  • PAT taken through another law enforcement agency, including the military.
If you have a passed a PAT or ORPAT test within the last six (6) months you may submit your valid PAT Score Certification to .

STEP 4: Sheriff's Office Orientation -Applicants will be invited to attend an agency orientation.

STEP 5: Pre-Offer Suitability Test / Video Interview - Applicants will be invited to complete the Pre-Offer Suitability Test, which evaluates an applicant's characteristics and match for the certified law enforcement profession and WCSO. Applicants will also be asked to answer several questions on video, to be used during the Subject Matter Expert (SME) Portfolio Review.

STEP 6: Ride Along - Candidates are required to complete an enforcement ride along.

STEP 7: Subject Matter Expert (SME) Portfolio Review -Applicants who pass the Background Investigation will have their information submitted for a SME Portfolio Review. The SME Portfolio Review will assess the candidates' life and work experience in ten key character-based competencies. Candidates who successfully pass the SME Portfolio review will be invited to a panel interview with Washington County Sheriff's Office.

STEP 8: Panel Interview - Applicants will complete a panel interview as a final step before they are considered for an Eligible List.

STEP 9: Command Staff Interview - Top candidates are invited to interview with the Division Command Staff.

STEP 10: Commander Interview and Conditional Job Offer - Final interview for selected candidates with the Commander.

STEP 11: Post Offer Physical and Psychological Evaluation - The evaluations are completed by third parties; a licensed medical doctor and a licensed psychologist. If a conditional job is offered, candidates must successfully pass a full physical and psychological evaluation.

ELIGIBLE LIST:
If your name is placed on the Eligible List, you will be notified and informed of the dates the list will be in effect. It will be in effect for six (6) months from the list date, and may be renewed for another six (6) months at the discretion of the Washington County Human Resources Division.
