Automotive Lab Assistant

The Automotive Lab Assistant position is to support and assist faculty during automotive labs. That includes set-up, student supervision, and clean-up of labs, equipment, and vehicles. During non-lab times other duties as described below. Reports directly to the Director of Advanced, Automotive and Industrial Technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in setting up labs for lab classes. Set up lab equipment, vehicles, tools, etc. as needed.
  • Maintain vehicles including gasoline and making needed repairs on lab vehicles.
  • Help install instructor designed faults on vehicles and remove faults after the completion of the lab.
  • As needed help instructor observe students, answer student questions, and ensure student compliance during labs.
  • When labs are split into different rooms due to space requirements be available to observe and assist students ensuring that all students are being monitored by an instructor or lab assistant ensuring the safety of the students.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies as needed.
  • When not needed to monitor students in labs actively rotate program vehicles through the shop performing needed maintenance on vehicles.
  • Monitor classroom instruction periods as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience and currency of knowledge in the use of a variety of equipment and technologies to enhance learning and academic skills.
  • Essential skills include the ability to communicate clearly, knowledge of study skills methods, and experience with students of diverse academic skills and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation; initiative, customer services, and commitment to continuous professional growth and development.
  • Knowledge of community college mission

Certifications:

  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse history, Act 114 FBI Cogent Clearance fingerprinting).

Work Experience:

  • Must have extensive experience of working in the automotive field or previous experience teaching in the automotive field.

    Physical Demands

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus.

    Required Education:

    • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Extensive automotive background
