About the Job

Position Summary:
We are seeking a 100% time on-campus postdoc to conduct research in the area of legume crop genomics and bioinformatics. Post-Doctoral Associates conduct research and/or service that provides further development of career skills or allows them opportunities to learn new research techniques. They are trained by and work in conjunction with a faculty mentor who determines the training agenda.

Positions are limited to a period of three to five years, depending on training needs. Post-Doctoral Associates are receiving training while also performing services for the University of Minnesota, for which they are compensated.

This position will involve analysis of variation in soybean and pea genomes, including natural variants and variants induced by mutagenesis and/or biotechnology applications. Analyses may include DNA sequence variant calling, localized genome assemby, and database development. There are opportunities to improve your biocomputing skills through tutorials hosted by the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute and local Software Carpentry workshops.

Note: These are not positions to which permanent residency can be granted for international appointees.

(65%) Biocomputing analysis and data organization
(20%) Writing, editing, and preparing original research articles and or scientific reviews
(10%) Reviewing manuscripts and literature-based research
(5%) Plant care and maintenance

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computational biology, Bioinformatics, Plant breeding/genetics, or related field. Individual may be immediate post-degree or returning for additional training, updating, and/or retooling. Limited to fields for which post-degree training is necessary for career entry.

Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in UNIX shell, Python, or other programming languages is preferred. Experience handling large next-gen sequence datasets is preferred. A demonstrated ability to publish original research in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.
