Salary range:
The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. A reasonable estimate for this position is $64,329-$91,718.
Percent time:
Positions may range from 11% to 100% time for one semester or one summer session.
Anticipated start:
The Department reviews applications for fall teaching in March and April, and applications for spring teaching in October and November, and for the summer in March (if applicable). Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester (in mid-January for Spring Semester; in mid-August for Fall Semester).
Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed (including hiring for Summer Sessions).
Position duration:
Appointments may be renewable based on the program's need, funding, and performance.

Position description

The Department of Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, seeks applications for a pool of non-tenure-track lecturers.

Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this pool does not guarantee that a position is available.

Teaching Responsibilities:

We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small or medium sized courses in the following areas:

1) Reading and Composition

2) Comparative Literature

3) American Cultures/Comparative Literature (For details on the parameters of American Cultures courses, see Program link below.)

General Duties:

In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website.

For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the position's start date. The Department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Must have an advance degree or be enrolled in an advanced degree program at time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Advance degree is required by the start date.

Preferred qualifications

PhD (or equivalent international degree) and relevant college-level teaching experience in the U.S.

Documented ability to work with texts in more than one language is also required by the start date.

If hired to teach Reading & Composition, demonstrated experience teaching reading and writing in English.
