Department Summary The vision of the at San Jose State University (SJSU) is to provide high-quality education in psychology that fosters the development of students so that they will make worthy contributions to society. The Department offers the following degrees: BA Psychology, BS Psychology, MS Clinical Psychology, MS Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and MA in Research and Experimental Psychology. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, SJSU was recently named the in the nation. Brief Description of Duties The Department of Psychology invites applicants for a pool of lecturers to teach courses, should the need arise, during the fall or spring semesters. We are seeking instructors with demonstrated or potential for teaching excellence. Lecturers are expected to work with the Department Chair to ensure their course instruction and materials conform to university and department policies and practices, including holding office hours and participating in performance reviews. The number of open positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department and available funding. The fall semester runs from late-August through mid-December. The spring semester runs from mid/late-January through mid/late-May. Positions that become open will generally be for undergraduate classes, although on occasion those for graduate-level instruction may become available. Candidates must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity - in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation - through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advising. All Faculty should be organizing their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the official LMS provided for the SJSU community. All classes at SJSU, whether online or not, must be anchored in the Canvas platform to ensure faculty-student connection in a common space, as all students are directed to log in to Canvas for online access to their classes. Conditional Appointment Please be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the "Order of Work," or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.
