Executive Director The
Executive Director (ED) is responsible for executing the strategy and directing all day-to-day aspects of Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County's (HFHDC) mission, vision and programs including strategic planning, oversight of the operations, financial, and external relations components of the organization. Reporting to and annually reviewed by the Board of Directors, the ED will:
Raise capital through grants, equity capital, loans, and contributions to sustain the organization and the work of the Affiliate. Hire, train, manage, develop, and retain employee(s), and assist in mentoring and developing volunteers, with competency and knowledge in key functional management areas to carry out the mission of HFHDC. Work closely with the Board to develop and implement strategies that drive our mission forward by building capacity, diversity, and expertise in key areas. Work closely with committee leaders and volunteers to support partner families and to identify and cultivate those persons interested in becoming partner families. Cultivate and nurture relationships with civic leaders, partners, funders, elected officials, and other public and private stakeholders (community outreach), sharing the full mission statement with each. Key Responsibilities: Leadership Act as the chief administrator responsible for managing all aspects of affiliate operations. Be an active partner with the Board of Directors in the preparation and implementation of strategic plans and policies. Establish basic office procedures that support the work of HFHDC to include: volunteer staffing, record keeping and retention, and the development and maintenance of databases to support the work of the affiliate. Create standard office hours and staffing that incorporate paid staff and volunteers. Provide direction and supervision to all staff and volunteers. Be a point of contact for committee chairs and facilitate effective communication between all committees. Participate in committee meetings as requested. Partner with the board President in the creation of monthly board meeting agenda. Communicate regularly with affiliate Board members, Committee Chairs, other affiliate Executive Directors, and Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). Follow all plans and policies established by the Board of Directors, while proactively suggesting policy and implementation changes as deemed appropriate. Provide direction and support for all training activities in the affiliate. Ensure that affiliate adheres to government regulations and HFHI policies. Facilitate orientation of new board members. Cultivate relationships with major employers and regional businesses to facilitate financial support and Board member recruitment. Resource Development: Focus a majority of personal efforts in the generation of revenue including fundraising strategies and grant/government fund sourcing. This would include, but is not limited to, researching sources and writing grant proposals to foundations and other supporters of the HFHI ministry. Must be proactive in seeking new sources of support, while working with all committees as they seek various resources from the community. Serve as a spokesperson for the affiliate. Be an active participant with appropriate community groups and leaders who share the goals of Habitat for Humanity. Be responsible for soliciting candidates for the board of directors and Committee Chairs, while working with Committee Chairs in the recruitment of volunteers. Required: This role requires a minimum of 40 hours per week commitment. Must be available as needed for evening meetings, monthly board of directors' meetings and special events. Occasional Saturday functions during the construction season may also be required. Excellent presentation and communication skills in interactions with a broad spectrum of audiences. Ability to create and sustain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, board members, and donors. Ability to delegate tasks while working cooperatively in a group environment. Must be a persistent partner with encouragement and a positive approach with the Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, staff and volunteers to ensure the timely completion of all projects and affiliate work. Demonstrate a positive and enthusiastic work ethic that promotes the mission, strategic goals and objectives of HFHDC in an effective manner. Strong organizational skills while remaining flexible to evolving priorities. Fundamental business skills and business management experience. Experience in fundraising, which includes history of creating and implementing comprehensive revenue generation and strategic fundraising plans. Proficiency with software tools such as Microsoft Office and donor databases. Preferred Skills: Familiarity with construction concepts and methods Experience with non-profit organizations Bachelor's degree preferred For all of the above-mentioned roles, the responsibilities listed may also include additional duties assigned by the Board of Directors.
