Position Summary:
UCI Capital Planning plays a key role in the development of capital projects for the campus, including construction of new buildings, renovation of existing facilities, and provision of utility infrastructure by providing planning, financial, and technical advice and consultation to the campus in the review, analysis, and development of campus and health science programs and projects. This includes space planning, programming, funding, and utilization from large-scale visioning to precise detailing. This work has a significant, demonstrable impact on the ability of UC Irvine to implement capital programs, which enable the campus to meet its education and research goals.
This position involves a wide range of planning activities that support the campus's capital improvement program and the utilization of campus space in support of the University's mission. The planner uses skills as a seasoned, experienced planning professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures and full range of planning skills and expertise to resolve a wide range of issues and provide expertise and assistance to campus stakeholders and decision support to senior management. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Operates with considerable independence in concept planning, project definition and feasibility phases of major construction projects. Key responsibilities include evaluating space needs, project proposals, and alternative solutions/strategies; coordinating approval processes for campus projects up to $70 million; and managing the Facilities Inventory System. These activities require a high level of interaction with campus clients, and close collaboration and integration with other administrative departments involved in planning. In addition, the planner provides analyses related to the reallocation of space, participates in the development of short- and long-range capital plans, and prepares reports and presentations on complex issues for senior management.

Required:
5 years of combined experience in analyzing and planning capital projects; and writing and editing reports
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and presentations for senior-level decision makers. Strong knowledge of facilities and space management, planning and analysis concepts. Thorough working knowledge / skill in planning-related fields. .Commitment to quality work, strict attention to detail, and excellent proofreading skills with knowledge of correct English spelling, grammar, and punctuation; experience producing technically accurate and easy-to-grasp presentation materials, narratives, and documents. Ability to work as part of a collaborative team as well as accomplish tasks individually. Strong analytical skills. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen. Ability to employ interpersonal skills in situations calling for tact and diplomacy. Skill at clearly communicating information to a wide variety of people (including senior management) in written form, in person, by phone, and by videoconference. Strong organizational skills; ability to provide, collect, and assemble data into clear, concise presentations; ability to apply judgement, multi-task, establish priorities, and respond to swiftly shifting delivery requirements and quick turn-around deadlines. Strong skills in analyzing complex information using a variety of computer software tools, including spreadsheets, database applications, word processing, and graphical tools.
Preferred:
Knowledge of UCI, including its architectural history, short and long range development plans, infrastructure and current, on-going and proposed design and construction plans. Demonstrated expertise conducting space utilization analyses.
