$15,000 Sign on Bonus Available for Qualified Candidate and Relocation Assistance can be provided!

Job Summary

The Certified Surgical Assistant II works as a 1st or 2nd assistant to the surgeon and under the direction and supervision of that surgeon may perform specific significant surgical tasks.

Anticipating the needs of the surgical team, the Certified Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, set up of various tables and positioning equipment, providing retraction for visualization of surgical site, cauterization of bleeding vessels, suturing and closure of incision, instillation of medications, application of surgical dressings, splints, and casts.

The surgical assistant has responsibilities before, during and after the surgical procedure. The surgical assistant uses effective interdisciplinary communication to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.

Participates in the orientation process for new employees and the educational instruction for the SA Student, intern, or extern

Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program required. Graduate of medical school (foreign or domestic) may be substituted for education if currently certified or Credentialed as a Surgical Assistant or Surgical First Assistant issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or the National Commission for Certification of Surgical Assistants or their successors in lieu of CAAHEP Surgical Assistant Program.

Demonstrates in depth clinical and technical skills in 3 surgical specialties.

3 years' experience as Certified Surgical Assistant required, completion of new employee orientation

Current employees must be an active participant in department improvement efforts (quality improvement project, conducting in-services), and in good standing with organizational commitments (annual EPR of at least Exceeds Expectations, no corrective actions within one year).
