20220062 Part-Time Meter Reader CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled APPLY ONLINE AT LONGMONTCOLORADO.GOV/JOBS Department: Longmont Power & Communications Division: Electric Administration Hiring Range: $21.84 - $24.27/hour 20-30 hours a week, Monday-Friday Part Time Limited Benefits Benefits include: Benefits required by law are included such as Social Security and Medicare. Additional benefits include Bereavement Leave and Employee Assistance Program. Definition: Collects water and electric meter readings daily from commercial and residential meters. Uses a variety of hand held and other mobile electronic devices for multiple types of utility meters, including manual read meters and meters located in pits. Readings are used for billing and usage analysis. Meets deadlines for all assigned work. Reports water and electric meter related problems. Represents the utilities in field contacts, responds to customer inquiries, and works with other departments on meter reading related issues. Principal Duties: Customize and program a variety of meter reading electronic devices and utilize reading and error codes. Document readings from electric and water meters on assigned routes. Record consumption figures and enter messages in hand-held recording devices, confirm all readings in drive-by or other mobile devices that have been collected. Reset electronic demand meters. Read meters located in standard and nonstandard locations such as customer's yards, basements, meter pits, and in City manholes for both urban and rural locations. Ability to learn routes. Perform the connect/disconnect list, edit and reread process. Collect the load survey interval data through the handheld device with the use of a probe. Perform uploading and downloading of information between hand-held and other mobile recording devices and personal computers. Document and report unusual consumption, malfunctioning meters, or signs of tampering with City meters. Report site conditions that inhibit meter readings. Prepare service orders for the repair of malfunctioning or damaged meters. Provide exceptional customer service, assist customers with questions, concerns or problems. Refer issues to the proper City department/division for further assistance as needed. Hang door hangers/tags and check seals and meter multipliers for accuracy. Balance work schedule to meet route completion deadlines. Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes. Working Environment: Work is performed outside in varied and extreme weather conditions in the City of Longmont's electric and water service territories. Work requires walking and standing at a minimum of six hours per day, walking on slippery or uneven surfaces, and walking at a pace that enables completion of assigned routes within work shift. Irregular or protracted work hours are occasionally required. Work will involve entering customer's private property, which may include encounters with threatening animals. Requires entering confined spaces to read meters located in manholes. There will be frequent exposure to sun and occasional exposure to noise, dust, and moving vehicles. Requires correctable near and far vision and ability to distinguish colors. The candidate for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to do the job. Qualifications: Outdoor work experience and a history of working around animals preferred. Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License.
