An individual in the Architecture job family is a strategic resource for UnitedHealth Group. This individual could be involved across many aspects of architecture, design, build, engineering and implementation of technical solutions and capabilities providing technical leadership. Responsible for communicating overall architecture vision, technical strategies, and trade-offs across various levels in the organization to gain buy-in. Will provide recommendations and technical guidance to improve performance, reliability, and reusability within the constraints of budget, resource, and business dependencies. In base and mid-level roles, engages across teams in a capacity that ranges from assisting on in-flight initiatives, up to technical briefings and demonstrations of new technologies across the organization. In senior level roles, leads business solutions, capabilities, and is a solid influencer that engages with client executives and stakeholders. Primary Responsibilities:



  • Principal Architects partner closely on product delivery and technology selection
  • Guide the transition to future state architecture
  • Drive technology acceleration
  • Foster innovation to achieve business outcomes
  • Maintain the IT architecture and keep up with the latest technology trends to promote continuous technology improvement in line with business strategies
  • Serve as technical architect across the pursuit lifecycle and within an integrated growth team, including proposal, capture and business development activities
  • Responsible for defining and driving the technical direction of prospective business opportunity proposals, developing solutions architectures, and providing technical leadership for proposals and strategic pursuits as well as creating content and contributing to the writing and assessments of proposals
  • Assess market level technology trends as well as capabilities of complementary solutions enabling larger scale solution offerings
  • Support marketing materials development such as whitepapers, slicks, trifolds, etc
  • Review RFP documents to understand scope of work and customer needs to develop an overarching solution to be proposed as part of the solicitation response
  • Work with the CTO office and Develop IT-based solutions consisting of contextual, conceptual, and logical architectures using standards-based, rigorous methodologies and practices
  • Communicate solutions with, management, and teaming partners, including presentations and white papers
  • Develop technical approach and proposal plans, including scheduling of tasks, processes, and identifying critical resources, to turn the solution into a successful proposal
  • Develop and write technical responses for winning proposals (and possibly RFI) responses
  • Support development of federal technical delivery methodology based on industry standard methodologies and frameworks
  • Support the adoption of best practices in the areas of technology integration, cloud computing, managed services, process improvement, technology innovation and implementation

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 10+ years of professional experience; or 8+ years of professional experience with a related master's degree
  • Demonstrated expertise in driving both the Business and IT strategies to cohesively propel each other at organizational, national, and/or global scale
  • Deep understanding and working experience in legacy and modern software development lifecycle and services delivery
  • Excellent solution architecture expertise in IT and Cloud Infrastructure and application modernization and migration techniques
  • Broad IT industry knowledge, deep expertise in one or more technical areas: User experience, SOA, digital transformation, microservices, enterprise service bus, database design, access and identity management, high availability infrastructure, Cloud, IoT, Blockchain, Event Driven Architecture, Service Oriented Architecture, DevSecOps etc
  • Highly organized and deadline-driven; able to multitask; proficient in MS Office products
  • As a requirement of UnitedHealth Group's contract with the Department of Defense, this position requires U.S. citizenship and proof of favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense eQuip Form SF86 (PDF), (the National Agency Check Legal and Credit or NACLC). Successful completion of the NACLC process is a requirement for continued employment in this role

Preferred Qualifications:



  • 12+ years of experience in related fields
  • Demonstrated experience working in or for* DoD, HHS, NIH, VA, DoC, NOAA, NIST, DoJ, Treasury *or equivalent national government organizations
  • Exemplary oral, written, interpersonal communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to produce results within a collaborative environment

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100 Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
