Computational Biologist - Translational Applications

10x Genomics Inc
United States, California, Pleasanton
6230 Stoneridge Mall Road (Show on map)
June 14, 2023

We are looking for an outstanding individual to help define and bring about the future of 10x Genomics. You will work closely with talented biochemists, bioinformatics experts, software engineers, statisticians, physicians and other scientists to analyze and interpret data generated from our single-cell and spatial assays. Our products are enabling researchers to study biology at unprecedented resolution and scale, yielding insights in diverse fields including cancer biology, immunology, neuroscience, developmental and basic biology.

You will apply existing computational methods and develop new methods to analyze and understand large, multimodal, and complex datasets, including clinical information. Working both with internal groups and with external partners, you will help solve pressing translational and clinical problems by developing insights from analysis of high-resolution and high-throughput biological data. You will then communicate those results in presentations and reports. You will also contribute to the development of our software tools, so clinically useful information can be extracted from the data generated by our assays.

You have a strong background in computational biology, bioinformatics and/or biostatistics, an excellent grasp of human biology at the cellular and molecular level, and experience working with single cell and/or spatial multi-omics data. You can interpret the results of your analyses within their biological and pathological context. You are very familiar with existing analytical methods, and can use and modify them to test new hypotheses. You can take an idea and are comfortable tailoring or writing software code to test it. You have a good working knowledge of statistics. You are able to communicate your ideas and work effectively with an interdisciplinary team and incorporate their feedback into your analysis. You are a strategic thinker, highly motivated, proactive and flexible in changing direction and methods. You thrive in a fast paced environment, excel at managing multiple priorities, communicate clearly and get the job done.

What you will be doing:

  • Use existing and emerging computational approaches to analyze complex multimodal datasets to identify candidate biomarker signatures.
  • Apply statistical tests to analyze and validate results.
  • Work with collaborators to dissect anatomical tissue architecture at a molecular level, by analyzing patient-derived samples, across tissues and diseases
  • Work with internal groups at 10x as well as external partners to solve problems using cutting-edge data visualization and analytical tools
  • Communicate findings to multiple parties
  • Contribute to development of 10x software tools

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or MS plus 4+ years of equivalent experience in a quantitative field (e.g. biology, bioinformatics, computational/systems biology, physics, mathematics, computer science)
  • Experience working on problems involving complex biological systems at high-resolution
  • Ability to conceive, modify and implement custom computational methods and algorithms and apply them to large datasets
  • Experience with the analysis of NGS data
  • Experience with the analysis of clinically relevant data (e.g. clinical meta-data)
  • Strong grounding in the state-of-the art pipelines and software tools to perform computational analysis of single cell data
  • Strong programming ability in a language such as Python or R
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas with an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to work independently and interdependently

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in analysis of histopathology and other spatial information
  • Creative problem solver who obsesses over finding useful biologically relevant information in data
  • Experience working in an applied biological field such as immunology, tumor biology, neurobiology or similar
