Job Summary
Retention Specialist (Student Services Specialist) position provides academic advisement to new and continuing Early Childhood & Teacher Education students, both in-person and virtually. This position tracks program retention, persistence and monitors academic progress of assigned students. Participates on the Education Field of Interest (FOI) Care Team are tasked with student success and retention. This position works collaboratively with Academic Affairs and Education program faculty by identifying any at-risk student populations and provides proactive outreach. It also identifies student barriers related to course and program completion, makes appropriate referrals for student support, and provides direction for students navigating campus resources.

Essential Functions
35% - Maintains and tracks data related to student enrollment, advisement, retention and completion within the Early Childhood and Teacher Education programs. Implements student outreach strategies to include enrollment nudges and proactive student communication through email, phone, & the learning management system. Assists students through all enrollment and re-enrollment processes and academic planning. Reviews student intake information and connects students to appropriate student support services or college resources through warm handoffs. Prepares reports and delivers group presentations and orientations.

35%- Provides academic advising and career planning and assists students with goal-setting. Provides academic advising support for FOI cohort and non-cohort students in-person and virtually. Supports Academic Advising Analysts with FOI related duties which include but are not limited to data collection, outreach, presentations, and serves as a member of the FOI CARE team with assigned caseload. Acts as initial primary student contact for student walk-ins, academic advising or program inquiries, and email correspondence. Meets and corresponds with students, parents, faculty, and college representatives to assist in resolving problems related to student services functions. Maintains and updates student records, interprets course placement and creates academic plans, provides information on program and degree requirements, and monitors and tracks student progress and persistence.

25%- Provides information on college policies, rules, & regulations. Provides academic information and support resources to students. Maintains and updates program materials. Assists with training of student workers and temporary employees.

5%- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year of full-time student services or college teaching experience, or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student

development programs.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and three years (3) of full-time student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

Desired Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution

2. One (1) or more years of experience working in an Enrollment Services/Student Services position at a community college.

3. Experience maintaining student records within a student records database management system (i.e. Peoplesoft, Banner, Salesforce, etc.)

4. Experience presenting and delivering group presentations or orientations.

5. Experience providing academic advisement virtually.

6. Effective written communication skills (as evident by application materials

7. Proficiency using Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office Suite.

  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25lbs
