About UMass Cranberry Station

Established in 1910, located in the town of East Wareham, Southeastern Massachusetts, the Cranberry Station is a part of the UMASS Amherst Campus. It is a research and outreach center charged with the mission of maintaining and enhancing the economic viability of the Massachusetts Cranberry Industry through research and outreach and serving the public welfare by supporting economic development and the protection of the environment.

Job Summary

The UMass Cranberry Station is seeking applicants to fill a postdoctoral research associate position in East Wareham, Massachusetts. The incumbent will work under the general supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Giverson Mupambi, and will conduct research related to cranberry physiology in agrivoltaic systems. The research will look at the effect of different shading treatments as determined by inter-row spacing under an agrivoltaic system in cranberry production.

Essential Functions



  • Conduct original applied research on cranberry physiology in agrivoltaic systems.
  • Take a leadership role in data collection, record keeping, data analysis, and compiling manuscripts for publication in appropriate journals.
  • Transfer research-based information to the MA cranberry industry.
  • Engage with other researchers to increase knowledge of agrivoltaic systems.
  • Supervise graduate students and research assistants.
  • Contribute to the development of new research proposals.



Other Functions



  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean's strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.



Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)



  • Ph.D. degree in horticulture science, crop science, plant science, or a related field.
  • A strong record of course work and independent research in subjects such as plant ecophysiology and controlled environments is desirable.
  • Capacity for excellent research, as demonstrated by publications and other professional activities, appropriate to the number of years in the field.
  • Abilities and skills in statistical analyses, data management, and visualization, and scientific writing.
  • Ability to work with a minimal amount of supervision.



Physical Demands/Working Conditions



  • Applicants should feel comfortable working in inclement outdoor conditions on occasion.
  • The work is split between field, lab, and office.
