Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer-Chemical provides technical support to ensure that process operations in the chemical etch facility perform in a safe, predictable, and consistent manner, and are in keeping with safety, environmental, and economic concerns in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Apply technical knowledge to analyze causes of long-term reliability and/or safety issues with the aim of executing expense and capital projects to resolve these concerns and optimize the process and its equipment.
  • Design, alter and/or upgrade chemical processing equipment and supporting utilities (i.e., air, water, electrical, exhaust, etc.) as necessary as well as create associated P&ID.
  • Review, revise, and create procedures, bills of material, routings, Management of Change (MOC), and other technical documentation.
  • Provide general assistance trouble shooting for day-to-day issues in the chemical handling area.
  • Develop and provide training on process operating documents for production in cooperation with other departments, vendors, and/or customers.
  • Provides process and equipment technical expertise to support site manufacturing operations that ensures safety, reliability, capability, and productivity.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and review maintenance of tooling, dies, and fixtures.
  • Assist with cost and quality initiatives through data collection, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Maintain product costing parameters within SAP.
  • Provides process support for the following: new process implementation; value improvement optimization; safety evaluation; in-depth troubleshooting; formal Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA) evaluation and implementation; and process control planning.
  • Lead and/or participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) related activities such as Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) reviews, Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews (PSSR), Mechanical Integrity, FMEA, and other technical and safety reviews.
  • Ensure that process is in keeping with federal, state & regulatory requirements governing chemical handling, storage and processing.
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement of chemical mixing, filtration, heating, cooling, exhaust scrubbing, neutralization systems via chemical etch process design and construction.
  • Network with peers and leverage knowledge from other functions and corporate groups; including R&D, Finance, Quality, Information Technology and Engineering.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Play an active role in safety by reviewing all designs and make sure that everything is in compliance.
  • Facilitate the development and use of effective training, change management, incident investigation, and self-assessment processes.
  • Create and maintain all process and/or manufacturing related documentation.
  • Assess processes, take measurements, and interpret data.
  • Work with multifunctional teams to assure production is meeting requirements in quality and uniformity.
  • Work on projects to improve yield, quality, reduce cost, and improve production uptime.
  • Train operators and assist in standard operating procedure development.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance/assistance to Production, Maintenance, Management, SH&E Manager, and QC/QA.
  • Assist in troubleshooting quality non-conformances, production issues, and other process issues.
  • Provide process engineering, chemical/chemistry support and detailed know-how to manufacturing personnel.
  • Provide and develop training for manufacturing personnel. Develop SOP's, work instructions, and other quick reference material as needed.
  • Build effective working relationships throughout the site, interact with shop floor supervisors, associates, and plant management to meet objectives.
  • Determine source of variation in production and develop systems or procedures required to reduce or eliminate variation.
  • Conduct root causes analysis to address specific process or quality problems.
  • Investigate and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to meet business and compliance requirements.
  • Apply a wide range of Lean, Six Sigma methods and tools to develop and implement process improvements.
  • Understand environmental, health and safety regulations and comply with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Challenge and coach on current process safety culture, commitment, ownership, risk tolerance, practices, and conditions.
  • Act as a technical engineering leader in manufacturing processes
  • Utilize risk assessment methods and tools for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards. Manage and assist with the mitigation of identified gaps, weaknesses, and improvement opportunities.
  • Assess and improve employee ability to identify and manage risk, and to flawlessly execute critical safe work practices.
  • Manage, track, and report on issues, initiatives/projects, incidents, assessments/audits, and safety performance for facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, MS preferred.
  • 5+ years working experience in a chemical plant or research and development setting
  • 2-5 years of chemical process engineering experience is required.
  • Comfortable with working in the cleanroom environment.
  • Knowledge of chemistry and chemical processes / methodologies applicable to a manufacturing setting
  • Demonstrated ability to use process improvement tools, such as:
    • Process Mapping and measuring
    • Process Safety Management (PSM)
    • Process Hazards Analysis (PHA)
    • Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews (PSSR),
    • Mechanical Integrity and FMEA
    • Root cause analysis
    • Statistical process control
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and technology elements such as Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Process Technology, Management of Change and Mechanical Integrity / Quality Assurance (MIQA).
  • Experience working in process-oriented manufacturing environments (examples include chemical, coating, plastics, refinery, food, beverage, etc.)
  • Experience completing CI functions, including scrap reductions, improving line efficiencies, etc.
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Well-developed technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of information systems and databases. Able to use the basic functionality of MS Office.
  • Good organizational skills, high level of accuracy and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to deal with complex manufacturing issues.
  • Demonstrated use of Six Sigma methodology (Green Belt or Black Belt certified) preferred
