Summary

The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital Pediatric Specialty Care of Maine Health is seeking an MD/DO or MD/DO/PhD clinical geneticist certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics to join their well-established Division of Genetics in Portland, Maine.

The successful candidate will have responsibilities including patient care, inpatient consults, outpatient genetic clinics and multidisciplinary clinics, as well as clinical teaching of medical students and residents. Experience in biochemical genetics and adult medicine would be highly desirable.

The Division of Genetics currently consists of 2 ABMG Certified Physicians, 4 ABGC Genetic Counselors and 2 Metabolic Dietitians. The Division works closely with 7 additional ABGC Genetic Counselors (5 in Oncology and 2 in Maternal Fetal Medicine). The Division also provides clinical services to children and adults at clinics throughout Maine via outreach and telehealth.

In addition to inpatient and outpatient Clinical Genetics, the group also staffs the Metabolism Program for individuals with inborn errors of metabolism in Maine and New Hampshire, The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic, and provides care for individuals with varied Lysosomal Storage Diseases. We are seeking to grow the Division with increased consultative and management services for adults, particularly in Neurology and Cardiology.

Physicians are on the medical staff of The a 95-bed tertiary care pediatric hospital within Maine Medical Center. The BBCH is Maine's only dedicated children's hospital, providing comprehensive services including a PICU, NICU, dedicated pediatric section in the ED, and a 35 bed Inpatient Unit. There is depth and breadth of pediatric specialties at Maine Medical Partners and The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, including developmental-behavioral pediatrics, endocrinology and diabetes, GI, ID, nephrology, pulmonology, neurology, surgery, urology, hematology/oncology, cardiology and rheumatology.

Maine Medical Partners, a subsidiary of Maine Medical Center, is Maine's largest multi-specialty medical group serving the healthcare needs of patients locally and throughout northern New England. This high quality team of 600 physicians and 350 advanced practice professionals provides a wide range of hospital based, primary, specialty, and sub-specialty adult and pediatric care delivered throughout a network of 54 locations across the State and acts as a regional referral network.

Maine Medical Center has 637 licensed beds and is the state's leading tertiary hospital and Level One Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies and fellowships and integration with Tufts University School of Medicine. This position includes a faculty appointment, commensurate with training and experience, at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Opportunities exist to teach medical students and pediatric/medicine-pediatric residents and pursue research through The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital Scholars' Academy and the Maine Medical Center Research Institute, the largest hospital based biomedical research institute in northern New England. The research institute focuses on molecular biology and genetics, outcomes and health services research, and clinical research.
