Position Summary

The Dance program at Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria is seeking applications to develop a qualified pool of part-time faculty for possible vacancies. Positions are available as determined by need during the Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2022-2023 academic years

Essential Functions and Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assignment to production and responsibilities.
  2. Preparation for production including necessary theatrical techniques.
  3. Identify and safely utilize appropriate tools to fulfill production requirements for performances.
  4. Basic technical theatre terminology.
  5. Recognize and demonstrate collaboration responsibilities with the director, designer and crew supervisors.
  6. Demonstrate and apply basic skills in running a production.
  7. Create, maintain or construct basic production elements.
  8. Costuming
    1. Basic designing; appropriate for each dance, taking into consideration theme, number of dancers, staging of the dance, and appropriate materials.
    2. Budget costs; pricing materials and working with a predetermined price-per-costume allowance
    3. Purchasing of materials
    4. Construction and fitting of costumes of dancers
    5. Repairing and maintenance of costumes during performance
    6. Props/sets
  • Basic designing; appropriate for the dance, taking into consideration theme, stage space, appropriate and workable materials
    1. Budget costs; pricing materials and working with predetermined allowance
    2. Purchasing of materials
    3. Construction of props/sets
    4. Maintenance and storage of props/sets
  • Lighting
    1. Designing - working with the light designer
    2. Banging, focusing, and patching of lighting instruments
    3. Running light board the show
    4. Maintenance of light instruments during the show
    5. Striking lights at the end of show
  • Publicity
    1. Putting labels on brochures
    2. Typing mailing lists
    3. Districting poster, publicity articles, and radio notices
  • Successful candidates will be able to provide evidence of a sensitivity to, understanding of, and the ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis, OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in physical education, any life science, physiology, theater arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts or music OR the equivalent.
    • A Master's Degree in Theatre or related field with experience in Theatre from a regionally accredited college or university, or equivalent professional experience.
    • Experience in teaching the design, construction and execution of theatrical sets and lighting, along with costume lighting design, publicity and production scheduling.

    Lecture Rate: $57.72 to $77.18 per hour depending upon education and experience
    Lab Rate: $50.28 to $67.20 per hour depending upon education and experience
    Activity Rate: $37.13 to $50.62 per hour depending upon education and experience
