ABOUT THIS ROLE:
The successful candidate will have extensive experience with Fire Protection, Fire Alarm, and Hood suppression systems. They will also be the primary and secondary contact with contractors, project managers, elected officials, businesses, and other county agencies that engage with the Office of the Fire Marshal. The selected individual will be a subject matter expert (SME) in the Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) and NFPA standards related to Fire and Life Safety systems, and the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code (VSFPC). The candidate will be a dynamic and adaptable individual that can multitask, de-escalate negative situations, manage expectations, and understand the county services related to the FMO. In addition, the candidate must be detail oriented, possess a high level of integrity, and be able communicate well.

Your contribution as a FMO Senior Construction Inspector in the Office of the Fire Marshal:

  • Be able to conduct inspections of multiple fire and life safety systems in buildings.

PREFERENCES: The successful candidate will have...
  • Experience in conducting inspections of fire and life safety systems in accordance with the codes (USBC, IFC, VSFPC), NFPA standards, and accepted practices.
  • Certified Inspector I and II to the NFPA 1031 standard.
  • Fire Prevention and Fire Protection systems inspector from DHCD.
  • Certified 3B Inspector from an accepted Board (Ex-NCPCCI) or NICET certification.
  • Personal integrity and a demonstrated ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Thorough knowledge of Office 365 Office Suite, EnerGov HTML5, and IG Inspect.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related experience.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: 8:00AM - 4:30PM or 7:00AM-3:30PM (Monday-Friday)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Fire & Rescue Requirement: Effective October 2012, mandated by the Virginia State Board of Health 12VAC5-31-540, VA EMS Regulations require a criminal background check conducted by the Central Crime Records Exchange and the National Crime Information Center via Virginia State Police; and a driving record transcript from the individual's state Department of Motor Vehicles.

ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $28.72/Hr-$43.08/Hr
