Job Summary

GateWay Community College is now hiring a great new role! This Instructional Services Coordinator position assists in the planning, development, coordination and evaluation of tutoring services as well as supervises tutors in the areas of writing, business, and allied health. This person hired for this role is a writing area subject expert; creates and conducts study strategies workshops and tutoring as well. Creates and conducts tutor training.

Additional Information

There will be a writing tutoring skills assessment as part of the interview process for this position.

Essential Functions

70% - Plans, develops, coordinates, schedules, and evaluates tutoring services in the areas of writing, business, and allied health. Day-to-day supervision, evaluation, and training of tutors in these areas. Addresses issues that arise in tutoring session. Coordinates Online Writing Center. Tutors students as needed in the area of writing both virtually and in-person.

20% - Creates and delivers contextualized study strategies workshops and tutoring sessions. Creates and delivers writing content presentations. Partners with faculty for the development of these presentations.

10% - Recruits, interviews, and hires tutors in above areas. Assists in marketing tutoring services with the college in these areas. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related program area, and one (1) year of program coordination experience

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related program area, and three (3) year of program coordination experience

OR

High School Diploma/GED and five (5) years of program coordination experience

Desired Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in English (literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, creative writing, rhetoric, TESOL, and secondary education) or related fields with high academic achievement in major area of study
  2. Experience in teaching or tutoring students in writing.
  3. Experience supervising and evaluating the work of others.
  4. Experience in developing training materials and training others
  5. Experience in taking a leading role in a college learning support program or in a similar setting (e.g. learning assistance, tutoring, academic success center; learning commons; or writing center)
  6. Experience in designing and presenting workshops on academic topics.
  7. Experience with online systems: Google Suite (including Google Meet), TutorTrac, SIS, Canvas.


Special Working Conditions
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all GateWay locations
  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving:
  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #10 lbs
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas.
