Crew Leader

The Crew Leader leads operational crews and performs various tasks associated with the formulation and movement of product, raw materials and other commodities. This position operates packaging and formulation equipment in production to maximize the output of the production line and performs online maintenance of all production-related equipment. This position is also responsible for performing this job in a safe and responsible manner following all safety rules and procedures.

What your day may look like



  • Leads crew of employees in the packaging of formulated products.
  • Meets all quality specifications in a safe and reliable manner.
  • Formulates raw materials into finished product that conforms to all quality control standards.
  • Completes production sheets accurately.
  • Performs system cleanouts and product changeover between production campaigns.
  • Sets up equipment and raw materials for next production run.
  • Troubleshoots all packaging and formulation equipment.
  • Performs online and simple repairs of equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of department equipment.
  • Ensures the completion of production paperwork, batch sheets and quality control paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Identifies quality control issues and problems and reports them to leadership.
  • Develops a run plan using the processor manuals.
  • Utilizes the run plan in training team members prior to a campaign.
  • Performs quality assurance tests including pH, density, emulsion, Karl Fisher, Particle size, wet screen, dry screen and viscosity.
  • Performs formulator functions when required.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by your leader.
  • Reliable and regular attendance is required.



Education and experience needed for this position



  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three years of production/manufacturing experience is required.



Other skills that will help you succeed



  • Ability to use various types of packaging machinery to perform all functions on the packaging line.
  • Math skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English is required. Bilingual is preferred.
  • Ability to work varying shifts.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in extreme hot and/or cold temperatures.
  • Operate and understand electronic controlled equipment.
  • Understands pneumatics, pressure and the pumping of liquids
  • Knowledge of pumps and valves.
  • Lift truck operator certification.
  • Ability to work over 40 hours as needed.
  • Capable of passing an OSHA respirator physical.



Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job

There are potential hazards associated with any chemical manufacturing business but at Helena Industries safety is our highest priority. We seek out extensive safety measures including engineered solutions and personal protective equipment and put them in place to minimize exposure to anything that could potentially be harmful to our employees.

The work environment for this position is that of a typical plant environment where the noise level is usually moderate to loud. In this position, you will regularly work near moving equipment/mechanical parts and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Lab and office positions at the plant would only have occasional exposure if they must go out into the plant.
