Safety Specialist

Overview:

Our client, a well-established manufacturing company, is looking for a Safety Specialist to take on the responsibility of performing company safety program-related duties, including planning, implementation, and coordination of safety programs and procedures. This is a long-term, direct-hire role with our client located in Roseburg, Oregon.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the site in achieving the safety goals of the organization
  • Plan, implement, and coordinate safety programs and procedures
  • Maintain knowledge of any changes in regulations and implement needed changes
  • Ensure manuals, policies, and procedures are in place and in adherence to regulations and company expectations
  • Collaborate with all safety staff to support consistency and knowledge sharing across all sites
  • Collaborate with the HR and Environmental departments to support consistency and knowledge sharing
  • Support and mentor the development of safety skills for all employees and leaders in the facility and ensure that the safety committee is active and effective
  • Maintain a current corrective action log for the site
  • Responsible for ensuring employees are trained in areas of safety, regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment
  • Lead and document appropriate risk assessments
  • Conduct corresponding follow-ups and implementation of corrective action items to eliminate incidents that have the potential to cause harm to anyone on site
  • Assist incident investigation teams and ensure that incident reports are thorough and complete and root causes, corrective actions, and lessons learned are identified
  • Provide safety reports to regional safety management
  • Communicate the health and safety goals, objectives, performance expectations, and metrics throughout the facility
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and internal requirements
  • Direct safety program activities for the facility
  • Partner with HR and the Worker's Compensation program seeking to identify opportunities for improved safety performance and cost reduction
  • Perform and administer safety audits and inspect safety facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure safety regulation compliance
  • Oversee facility safety inventory, including supplies, equipment, and training materials
  • Analyze and utilize data to set safety priorities and develop action plans
  • Communicate with front-line leaders and management to achieve company standards and safety requirements

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of safety and health experience required
  • Has at least an Associate degree and/or working toward bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related subject required
  • Working toward or achieving OHST, ASP or CIH certifications required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards in dealing with confidential information required
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills and ability to work in a highly functional team environment required
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail while prioritizing and handling numerous tasks required
