Job Responsibilities
The IT Data Architect 4 is a senior technical expert with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in the areas of enterprise data warehouse architecture and analytics (e.g., Databricks, Oracle, SQL Server), data management, data analysis, database development, clinical informatics (e.g., standardized medical vocabularies), and business intelligent (BI) at the Health System. This includes, but is not limited to, the installation, upgrade, configuration, maintenance, and support of complex mission-critical relational database management systems and supporting application software within the Data COE.
This position will have a leadership role as a senior IT Architect working on highly technical, complex application projects such as the UC-Wide Health Data Warehouse, Clinical and non-Clinical data marts, Advanced Cloud computing, and AI/Machine Learning models. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources, functions with a high degree of autonomy.
Applies advanced IT architecture concepts and campus/medical center/OP or community-specific objectives to resolve highly complex issues with significant impact on the organization. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Effectively selects criteria for evaluating results. Responsibilities include serving as technical expertise resource to the team, management, affiliates, and leadership.
Architect, design, develop, test, implement, and evaluate information systems for the organization; Participate in planning, developing, training, implementation, and evaluation of information systems to support ongoing operations and ensure development, evaluation, and ongoing support for all components of the program.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Advanced knowledge of data warehouse architecture and analytics, data management, data analysis, database development, and business intelligent (BI).
  • Knowledge of advanced cloud computing, artificial intelligence development, and machine learning data models.
  • Knowledge of software, database, infrastructure, or other IT function. Knowledge relating to the design and development of software across the organization.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills and able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • May require knowledge of network protocols and how they are used on a large (campus/medical center/OP-wide, institution-wide, or beyond) network.
  • May require advanced knowledge of data storage, processing analysis and visualization technologies and how they are used in administrative and/or academic endeavors at a large, top-tier research university or medical center.
  • Demonstrates ability to translate business needs into long-term architecture solutions.
  • Expertise relating to the architecture, design, and development of software across the organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of data storage, processing, and analysis and how they are used in administrative, medical and / or academic endeavors.
  • Understanding of and experience with key modeling and description languages used to map complex business processes to architectural components, develop common data resource architectures, and create reference frameworks.
  • Experience with the integration of complex, diverse, internally, and externally developed implementations of business functions to build scalable systems.
  • Experience leading the technical aspects of system implementation for complex projects is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and change management skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships.
  • Demonstrates ability to plan, lead teams, prioritize tasks, and direct projects successfully (and on time) from inception to completion
  • Knowledge of statistical algorithms and machine learning techniques.
  • Understanding of how data asset is collected by various clinical and operational workflows at UCDH.
  • Advanced experience with writing Microsoft T-SQL and PL/SQL scripts.
  • Highly proficient with database-system and database-management fundamentals and understanding of database design.
  • Advanced experience in modeling, designing, and creating relational databases with solid understanding of referential integrity, normalization, attribute definition and query writing (Transact-SQL, PL/SQL, SQL).
  • Ability to apply expert-level problem-solving skills to issues of the most complex nature, to quickly diagnose problems, and to develop, test, and deploy appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates analytical skills and expertise in documentation and reporting.
  • Demonstrates ability to serve as an expert resource with broad industry knowledge, to lead teams and work effectively with key personnel and management, and to provide advice and counsel on optimal strategies and policies for improving quality, efficiency, and functionality of clinical informatics programs.
  • Ability to integrate large scale databases with Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL or similar RDMS.
  • Abilities include developing and implementing database schemas, backup strategies, data usage analysis, periodic and ad hoc reports.
  • Ability to create, modify, and troubleshoot very complex stored procedures/triggers.
  • Experience in working with various database instances and environments (Dev, Test, Stage, Prod).
  • Ability to multitask in an agile development environment working on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Experience in data migration from same or different data sources.
  • Knowledge of various mechanisms for efficiently importing/exporting large amounts of data.
  • Knowledge of any tools for database queries, data input, and report delivery.
  • Ability to optimize Schemas (Databases) utilizing multiple techniques.
  • Demonstrates effectiveness and success working in a project focused environment.
  • Extensive in-depth experience with the RDBMS systems and SQL
  • Previous experience developing and maintaining database level security in all database environments.
  • Review and implement security guidelines and mechanisms
Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic institution or large integrated health system experience.
  • Experience leading projects with contractors/consultants.
  • Knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures.
