    Position Summary

    The Appraiser II is responsible for the appraisal of residential property. The Appraiser II may assist in more complex appraisals including commercial, industrial and personal properties. The Appraiser II prepares weekly status reports on the progress of new residential buildings as well as coordinates with other City departments regarding tax roll and bill preparation, special assessment district properties, zoning information of new residential and commercial sites and new building activity within the City. Represents the City at the Board of Review and before Michigan Tax Tribunal for residential cases as well as industrial, commercial and personal property cases as needed. The Appraiser II listens and responds to property owner concerns, verifies accuracy of property records and refers the property owner to the appropriate individual.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school or GED equivalent; Associate's Degree with major course work in business, math, or related field is preferred.
    • Level II Certification from the State Tax Commission.
    • Three (3) years professional experience working in an assessing office performing assessing duties.
    • Must have knowledge of principles and practices for appraising, establishing and determining property value, statistical methods and mathematics, laws, regulations, and ordinances affecting appraisal processes.
