Postdoctoral Scholar-Skillset 3

Alfred University seeks qualified applicants to work in the area of ultra high temperature ceramic synthesis, processing and characterization. The project spans 5 individual project areas, with postdoctoral research associates needed with the following skillset:

• Materials science, mechanical engineering and related fields, in order to performadditive manufacturing of ceramics and composites with feedback control. Activities may include:
  • 1) developing a material extrusion based additive manufacturing system with machine learning/image processing feedback controls
  • 2) synthesis and processing colloidal materials
  • 3) 3D printing of different materials (ceramics, composites)
  • 4) theoretical/simulation of fluid flow during extrusion
  • 5) characterizations of the printed 3D parts.
• Experience in AM system design, electronic control, and programing are preferred.
• The PDRA will work closely with faculty, other postdocs, laboratory technicians, graduate students and scientists from outside laboratories.
