Settling Claims fairly is the cornerstone of our business. As the State's largest property insurer, we have fantastic opportunities for highly skilled, analytical thinkers who are ready to combine their advanced claims experience with their legal background to join our Claims Litigation team. As a Lead Litigation Claims Adjuster you will be responsible for the review and analysis of litigated claims. You will provide recommendations towards the resolution of new Complaints. You will interact with external business partners and exercise independent judgment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL, BASIC AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION. THESE FUNCTIONS ARE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF ALL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED.

Models ethical behavior and executes job responsibilities in accordance with Citizens core values, ethics, and information protection policies.



  • Review lawsuits and claim files and provide recommendations for the handling of new law suits.
  • Have the technical knowledge of estimating and repair methods and the ability to review and compare estimates for overlap, pricing, understand industry standards and repair options and assess the potential effect on jury views and trial outcomes.
  • Recognize the potential deficiencies in a case and the need to a negotiate settlement as a potential resolution.
  • Assist management with the creation of strategic initiatives and the implementation of litigation strategies.
  • Ability to interpret policy language and recognize potential ambiguities that could lead to potential adverse verdicts.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work efficiently to provide prompt review and assessment of potential trial outcomes.
  • Ability to research internal and external websites.
  • Participates in workload surges and/or catastrophic response as needed, to include mandated overtime during specified catastrophic events. May assist other business units as needed.
  • May coach, counsel or train less experienced staff, may also direct the work of others, may provide input in the performance management, goal setting and review processes.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Demonstrates working knowledge to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and department operational guidelines in daily functions.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Windows Environment.
  • Possesses strong customer service skills and can address customer escalations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize problematic situations and put into effect creative solutions.
  • Ability to coordinate large, diverse teams of adjusters, attorneys, consultants and/or experts.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and adapt to frequent priority changes.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree OR two (2) years relevant experience OR a combination of college education and experience equivalent to two (2) years.


AND



  • Eight (8) or more years of experience handling claims relating to P & C Claims (Personal/Commercial).


OR



  • JD AND 2 years of adjusting experience.


AND



  • Must possess a valid, active and appropriate Florida adjuster license within 90 days of employment and maintain it as a condition of continued employment. Appointment required.
  • Within 90 days of employment, must successfully complete all requirements of Citizens Fundamental Claims School which includes obtaining an overall passing score.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or field with skills transferrable to insurance.
  • Ten (10 or more years of experience handling claims.
  • Active Florida Adjuster license (620 or 644).
  • Industry designations or certification.
  • Xactimate proficiency.


PHYSICAL RQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the ability to sit, hear, converse over the telephone and key frequently on a computer for long periods of time (4 or more hours per day). This position may require occasional overnight travel during catastrophe response; and may be required to work for extended periods of time to include after standard business hours in addition to weekends and holidays during catastrophe response, or as needed.
