What you will be doing: We need a certified lifeguard to help lead our lifeguard team and keep the Erie Community Center pool a safe and fun environment for the community. This position works in collaboration with our full-time aquatic management team to ensure the pool is in top working condition each day. This person will be performing a variety of poolside and water safety duties including routine maintenance and cleaning, safety inspections, opening and closing the facility, staff training and supervision, and remaining composed as you respond to medical emergencies. Summary of Duties

Aquatics Operations
- Assists the Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator-Aquatics, and Aquatic Specialist in performing daily duties of aquatic operations.
- Acts as the Manager on Duty. Responsible for opening and/or closing the pool.
- Ensures aquatic facility is ready for normal daily use including pump room and chemical checks, stocking safety supplies, and performing safety checks.
- Provides exceptional guest service and provides accurate and up to date information regarding the pool and department.
- Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies.
- Maintains constant alertness and awareness of patron activities to minimize exposure or threat of incident or accident.
- Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of pool and vicinity including but not limited to: decks, walls, windows, equipment, locker rooms, pool, hot tub, spray garden. Responsible for adjusting chemical levels, changing filter baskets and draining/filling/backwashing hot tub.
- Conducts safety inspections on pool, spa, slide, deck, furniture, play structure, pump room and prepare appropriate recommendations.
Administrative Duties
- May assist with training staff. Attends and participates in staff meetings, skill checks, and trainings.
- Completes a variety of paperwork including maintenance of daily records relating to patron usage, incidents, rescues, water quality, water temperature and chemical testing procedures.
- Maintains frequent communications with staff. Reports issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.
- Sets up rotations to ensure optimal coverage of lifeguard assignments.
- Completes lifeguard shift evaluations and administers red cap drills.
Other/Miscellaneous
- May serve as or fill in for the Assistant Coordinator -Aquatics or Specialist as needed.
- Remains composed and make sound judgments in any emergency or non-emergency situation. Responds to emergency situations and performs water rescues, administers first aid, CPR and other medical attention as needed and completes incident reports.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED. One year of related aquatics experience and must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check. CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
- CPR, First Aid and AED certification
- Current Lifeguarding certification
- Ability to obtain within three months of employment:
- Administering Emergency Oxygen and suctioning certifications
- Blood Borne Pathogen certification
- CPRA pump room orientation when class is available
- Valid Colorado Driver's License and satisfactory driving record

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate exceptional leadership and communication skills and must possess expert knowledge of the principles, practices, trends and methods of recreational aquatics operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures also required. Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication; supervision, leadership, and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management, meeting deadlines, responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; handling controversial issues; comprehending instruction, correspondence, and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR, First Aid, and AED to level of certification. Environmental Factors: Work is performed in a standard recreational facility environment. Work may involve competing demands, and performing multiple tasks. Physical Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time and occasionally lift storage boxes and sports equipment of 20lbs or more.
