Application Window Open date: October 27, 2022 Most recent review date: Friday, Nov 25, 2022 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Friday, Jun 30, 2023 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Department of Agricultural Economics in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics. This is an academic year (9-month), tenure track Assistant Professor position that includes an appointment in the California Agricultural Experiment Station (AES). Faculty members who hold an Agricultural Experiment Station appointment have a responsibility to conduct research and outreach relevant to the mission of the California Agricultural Experiment Station. Participation in outreach programs and performance of university service are also expected. The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program in agricultural economics to address critical or emerging issues in food and agriculture in California and the United States, including but not limited to the following areas: production, supply, marketing and trade, consumption and demand, and policy. The appointee will be responsible for teaching an average of 2.5 quarter courses for the years 2 to 5, with a teaching reduction in the first year. The expected courseload is one course in year 1, two courses in year 2, three courses in year 3, two courses in year 4, and three courses in year 5. The expected course load beyond this period will be three courses per year. The appointee is expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Possible undergraduate courses include agricultural policy (ARE 120), agricultural sustainability (ARE 121), agricultural markets (ARE 130), cooperative business enterprises (ARE 132), managerial marketing (ARE 136), farm management (ARE 140), futures and options (ARE 139), international commodity and resource markets (ARE 138), and Agricultural Labor (ARE 150). Possible graduate courses include a M.S.-level course in agricultural economics and policy (ARE 223) as well as one of three Ph.D.-level courses in agricultural economics (ARE 231, 232, and 233). The appointee is also expected to advise graduate students on their M.S. theses and/or Ph.D. dissertations. Undergraduate honors theses may also be part of fulfilling advising expectations. Participation in and development of public outreach and/or community engagement programs, and performance of departmental and university service is expected. This position is expected to collaborate with Professors of Extension, Cooperative Extension advisors, partners in allied industries or other appropriate public stakeholders. This recruitment is conducted at the assistant rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications. Full-time Equivalent (FTE) Availability of Space and Resources Start-up funding will be provided based on the programmatic needs of the successful candidate.
