POSITION SUMMARY This HIV Research Program Officer position is one of two Program Officers in the California HIV Research Program (CHRP). CHRP invests more than $7 million annually in innovative research for eliminating new HIV infections, optimizing treatment uptake and outcomes for all persons living with HIV, and addressing the comorbidities and social determinants that threaten the health and well-being of persons at risk for or living with HIV. Across every aspect of our work, CHRP seeks to fund high-risk, high-reward, high-rigor research projects that aim to substantially and rapidly advance HIV epidemic control and that address research priorities and gaps not supported by other funders. Further, CHRP is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion as a means of increasing the effectiveness of its grantmaking and generating new knowledge that benefits all Californians. The HIV Research Program Officer is responsible for the design, execution, oversight, dissemination, and evaluation of multiple public health research initiatives in the California HIV Research Program (CHRP), with the goal of helping to achieve HIV epidemic control in California. Primary duties include conceptualizing new research initiatives with high likelihood of impact on the HIV epidemic; planning and development of innovative Requests for Proposals (RFPs); equity-minded applicant and reviewer outreach; rigorous management of scientific review of applications with transparency and minimal bias; and proactive award management throughout the grant period. The Program Officer will ensure that research results are disseminated to members of stakeholder communities, including persons who are living with or at risk for HIV. As part of the CHRP team, the Program Officer will evaluate the impact of these HIV research grantmaking initiatives using program-determined indicators and standardized methods, and use the lessons learned to inform future strategic planning efforts. Each member of the CHRP team represents the program during engagements with various stakeholders such as clinicians, community-based organizations, policymakers, and statewide coalitions. The ideal candidate will have direct experience with a broad range of organizations and institutions concerned with HIV prevention and care, and the communities they serve. The incumbent will have advanced knowledge of HIV research sufficient to provide independent oversight of the grants in their portfolio. The incumbent will also work with the CHRP Program Director and staff to develop best practices and work products needed to maintain CHRP's excellence in grant-making, demonstrated transparency and accountability, and commitment to social justice.
