Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is member is a member of the intensive care team and has as his/her primary responsibility the management of a caseload of critically ill complex (multi-organ) patients ins a critical care setting. The NP is in direct collaboration with his/her supervising physician or designated back-up physician. He/she has specialized skills and knowledge related to the unique Intensive Care setting in which he/she practices and performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnosis and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate medications and interventions, and provide patient care services in a Critical Care organization and the nursing profession.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. The job requires at least 12 months of clinical experience and expertise as a Nurse Practitioner within the past five years.
  2. This person should also role model professional nursing through conduct, communication, leadership, ethical decision making and problem solving skills. The NP will maintain current PALS training.
  3. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

The Nurse Practitioner should have the following:

  1. Must have and maintain current BLS. Cetifications must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA for Healthcare Provider's Program.
  2. Must have PALS certification by April 1, 2017 and maintain current status thereafter.
  3. A current license from the Texas Board of Nursing to practice as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority
  4. National accreditation in their area of specialty.
  5. No physical and/or mental problem preventing him or her from exercising the granted privileges
  6. An agreement with a physician(s) currently appointed to the medical staff of the hospital to supervise the NP's practice in the hospital
