Automation Engineer IV

PieperAutomation is hiring an Automation Engineer IV in New Berlin, WI. This position will report to the Engineering Manager and requires a decisive leader able to work independently and collaboratively with a passion for hands-on work and a strong drive for project management work, and mentorship of less experienced engineers. Must have a desire to work in a team-based environment and contribute immediately. The experienced engineer will provide application programming and configuration necessary in delivery of process control automation projects. The position will perform all duties of the Automation Engineer IV capable of mentoring and assisting less experienced engineers in large projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Interacting with, Designers, Design Engineers, and Lead Engineers
  • Create Functional Specifications
  • Execute project reviews, construction support and field verification
  • PLC Programming
  • Operator Interface Programming
  • Computer Programming using multiple languages
  • Process Control - design/build to specification/Design Basis
  • System Control - design/build to specification/Design Basis

Requirements:

  • Ten or more years related experience and/or training in industrial automation, or Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Communication skills and technical writing skills.
  • Friendly, professional demeanor; ability to follow through on tasks and work independently.
  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity - both are non-negotiable.
  • Individual must be able to work independently, meet deadlines and budgets, work on multiple jobs simultaneously, can read and understand electrical schematics, and fulfill all job requirements within a timely fashion.
  • Be willing and capable of completing personal development plans for self. Desire to learn and grow personally and professionally required.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and comprehend automation equipment manuals and electrical schematics
  • Wiring practices and electrical fieldwork
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of one or more of the following and general knowledge of the others:
  • Motion Control, Drives, VFD and/or Servo, Robotics, Vision, Machine Safety
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
