Description
Intermodal Chassis and Container Mechanics repair chassis, trailers, containers, and other intermodal equipment in their designated intermodal terminal. This role ensures that equipment meets or exceeds all safety standards as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), original equipment manufacturer standards, and any other standards of maintenance, repair, and safety Responsibilities Intermodal Chassis and Container Mechanics perform the following duties and tasks: * Perform preventative maintenance and repair damage to chassis, trailers, and containers, including brakes, landing gear, and suspension * Safely assess, diagnose, repair, and handle tires on all types of intermodal equipment, including single and split rim applications * Maintain accurate and detailed records of equipment's current condition and maintenance history * Maintain a parts and inventory list * Provide concise written and photographic documentation to support the need for maintenance * Create and maintain a safe and clean work environment Requirements * High school diploma or GED * Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR) * Own basic hand tools * Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with supervisors, members of management, vendors, and other employees * Ability to meet deadlines * Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions well * Proficiency in Microsoft Office, mainframe systems, and terminal operating systems * Comfort with climbing ladders and working up to 20 feet above ground * Ability to pass a background and drug test, per Class 1 Railroad and E-Railsafe protocols * Prefer verifiable work experience (5 years) with an acceptable attendance record * Prefer mechanics with FMCSA and Brake Qualification forms Hours REMPREX is a 24/7/365 operation. This is a full time role that may work non-standard hours, including nights, weekend, and holidays. Occasionally, the role can require travel and extended work hours, including on-call duty as needed. Physical To perform the essential functions of this job, an employee must meet the physical demands in this job description. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle, feel and reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus for both day and night operation. The individual must be able to work outside in various weather conditions, such as rain, snow, and heat, for long durations of time, up to and including an entire shift. Work Environment This role works outdoors with very limited office work. Intermodal Chassis and Container Mechanics must be able to work outdoors in all conditions-including extreme cold and heat-and in the presence of dust and loud noises.
