Job Summary

A Postdoctoral Fellow position in physical oceanography and weather space and planetary science is available at the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech. The postdoctoral researcher will work collaboratively on a project that focuses on understanding acoustic propagation in the New England Seamounts (NESM) region, where mesoscale and submesoscale circulations abound. Familiarity with regional ocean modeling, machine learning and/or modeling sound propagation is preferred.

Postdoctoral Fellow appointments are full time and limited term (recommended to be 1-3 years, with a maximum of 5 years). A Postdoctoral Fellow's responsibilities are substantially research and/or scholarship, but may combine these responsibilities with formal instructional responsibilities (typically no more than 50% effort). Postdoctoral Fellows must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate, typically within the past 5 years, and must be supervised/mentored by a faculty member. Postdoctoral Fellows are considered to be Research Faculty without faculty governance voting privileges.

Responsibilities

The individual will be responsible for running and analyzing simulations using the Regional Ocean Modeling System and for downscaling and bias-correcting the HYCOM-NCODA ocean forecast using machine learning tools.

Required Qualifications

A PhD in climate oceanography and weather space and planetary science or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have a background in dynamical system theory, experience in regional ocean modeling, machine learning and/or ocean acoustic.

Required Documents to Attach

Please include a CV and Cover letter.
