Job Responsibilities
The Art Therapist guides patients to use self-expression and art making to explore loss, promote self-esteem, build autonomy, and cultivate developmentally appropriate coping skills.
The Art Therapist has the skill and knowledge to conduct thorough assessments and implement developmentally and psychosocially appropriate art therapy interventions for pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients and their families. This individual must have the skills to provide emotional support, reflective listening, and therapeutic interventions during individual and/or group art therapy sessions while maintaining appropriate therapeutic relationships. Supervision of volunteers and students and provision of introductory guidance to interns as appropriate is also required.
Required Qualifications
  • Registered Art Therapist, Board-Certified or eligible to receive certification within three (3) years and/or ATR-P (Registered Art Therapist, Provisional)
  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Art Therapy or related field approved by the American Art Therapy Association
  • Knowledge of child development and theory.
  • Knowledge of appropriate Art Therapy interventions with patients and families.
  • Knowledge of Art Therapy theory and how to apply theory to practice.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to parents, pediatric patients, and siblings about social, emotional, and developmental needs.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and ability to facilitate structured and unstructured group art therapy.
  • Knowledge of formal Art Therapy Assessments and how to document and implement their findings.
  • Ability to document assessments, interventions, and plans in medical records.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice.
  • Basic computer skills.
Special Requirements
Must be able to work variable schedule including overtime.
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
