About This Role:



Postdoctoral Fellow: Grazing Lands Greenhouse Gas Dynamics

This position represents a partnership between K-State and the USDA Climate Hubs to equip more producers, water managers, and other stakeholders with training, network and confidence to take action to improve an effort to develop and deliver science-based, region-specific information and technologies to agricultural and natural resource managers that enable climate-informed decision-making, and to provide access to assistance to implement those decisions. Implement a human centered, participatory program to collect and integrate feedback from diverse agriculture supply chain partners.



  • Determine what science indicates about current and future climate scenarios; how current and projected conditions affect agriculture, forestry, and the communities that depend on them; how to best adapt to new conditions; and mitigate greenhouse gases, and what roadblocks exist to implementing best practices
  • Technology/tool co-development and support - the employee will engage in tool development and curation to address regional partner needs, support existing USDA and partner tools and capacities, and reduce obstacles to implement best practices.
  • Outreach, convening, and training - the employee will develop and communicate science-based information with a diverse set of partners. This theme covers a broad range of activities, from factsheets and trainings to podcasts and media interviews.



The position is a term appointment and contingent on availability of grant funding.

What You'll Need to Succeed:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Doctoral degree (PhD), track record of productivity with peer-reviewed publications
  • Less than 5 years of prior postdoctoral experience
  • Experience conducting research and outreach in relevant field (range management, ecology, natural resources, agronomy, biology, climate science, beef sustainability, etc.)



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Commitment to public service
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Strong analytical thinking skills
  • Education and credentials in a specialty area (sustainable livestock production or climate-smart agriculture)



Other Requirements:



  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
