Job Summary and Qualifications You Will:Prepare and process specimens for gross and microscopic examination and diagnosis by a pathologist. May assist in the preparation of frozen sections of surgical specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist.Perform histology and cytology procedures including specimen processing/fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine and special stains in accordance with department procedures.Assure positive sample, block and slide identification throughout the sample/slide preparation processPrepare and maintain solutions for stains and histology procedures. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation per manufacturer & department procedures and per department schedule.Utilize independent judgement and problem solving skills to ensure the accuracy of procedures performed and proper equipment performance. Troubleshoots to and takes appropriate corrective action to resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely manner for resolution.Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.You Should Have:High School Diploma AND minimum two years of histology experienceOR High School Diploma AND completion of an accredited program in HistotechnologyOR Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology AND one year of histology experienceOR Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or ChemistryNational Certification as a MT (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) requiredThorough knowledge of histology methods and correlation to disease processesAbility to follow protocols for the proper fixation and routine staining of samplesAbility to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologistDemonstrates good technique in the cutting, embedding, orientation and staining of specimensGeneral knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirementsAbility to train othersThis role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).HCA Healthcare has been recognized as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute more than ten times.
