We are seeking Public Health Nurses with a passion for promoting community health and wellness to fill multiple current vacancies in Lompoc, Santa Barbara, and Santa Maria for the Public Health Department.
We are also accepting applications to fill future full-time, part-time, extra-help (temporary) and 1414* vacancies in Santa Maria, Lompoc, and Santa Barbara, for multiple programs, which may include Disease Control & Prevention, California Children's Services, Child Health & Disability Prevention, Health Care Program for Children in Foster Care, and Maternal, Child, & Adolescent Health in the Public Health Department.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Under general direction, the Public Health Nurse promotes community health through detection, prevention, and control of disease; provides assessment, education, and counseling in the care and prevention of illness and injury; promotes wellness; and performs related duties as required.
Nursing Divisions:
Disease Control and Prevention (DCP) program in Santa Barbara. The DCP Program works to prevent and control communicable disease outbreaks, promote health, and monitor the health status of our communities. Preventing epidemics and controlling communicable disease is one of the core functions of public health. Disease Control staff respond to single cases, clusters and outbreaks of reportable communicable diseases in order to prevent spread within the community.
The DCP Program of the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department is comprised of the Tuberculosis, Communicable Disease, Sexually Transmitted Disease, HIV/AIDS, and Immunization Programs. to find out more about the services provided by the Disease Control & Prevention Program.
CHDP Foster Care - Health Care Program for Children in Foster Care (HCPCFC) have approximately 600 children in foster care in Santa Barbara County. Most of these children have special health care needs. For this reason, the CHDP Program has a Public Health Nurse assigned to Santa Barbara County Children's Welfare Services and Juvenile Probation Divisions. Our mission is to assist these agencies in promoting preventive healthcare and treatment of identified health problems. The Public Health Nurse serves as a resource in the development and implementation of health service plans, advocates for the health care needs of the child, and assists caseworkers to obtain health care services for children in foster care. to find out more about the services provided by Health Care Program for Children in Foster Care (HCPCFC).
Health Care for the Homeless program in Santa Barbara provides resources, care, and advocacy to patients experiencing homelessness in our community. This position covers a wide demographic area, providing outreach nursing services and case management to Carpentaria's, Santa Barbara's, and Goleta's homeless population. to find out more about the services provided by Health Care for the Homeless program.
Adult Services- Department of Social Services. The Public Health Nurse provides collaboration and support to the Adult Services Division, including but not limited to the following: Reviewing medical records for the IHSS/APS programs, accessing and reviewing medical records from hospitals, medical personnel, to assist Adult Services staff in their implementation of case plans, to include assisting Adult Services staff in determining program eligibility. In addition, the Public Health Nurse will assist when appropriate with the development of any specialized training to the Adult Services as needed.

- Supplemental Questionnaire Ranking. Applications that meet the employment standards will be evaluated and scored. Candidates' final score and rank on the eligibility list will be determined by the information provided on their supplemental questionnaire.
Candidates must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the supplemental questionnaire ranking to be placed on an employment list. An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established, all candidates will receive an email notice of their score on the exam(s), rank on the employment list, and exact duration of the employment list.
Veteran's Preference Points: Veteran's preference credit is applicable for this recruitment (5 points for veterans, 10 points for disabled veterans). To be eligible for this credit, you must be applying for this position within five years from your most recent date of: (1) honorable discharge from active military service; or, (2) discharge from a military or veterans' hospital where treatment and confinement were for a disability incurred during active military service; or, (3) completion of education or training funded by a Federal Educational Assistance Act.
