Recreation Site Supervisor

General Summary

Assists in a variety of supervisory and onsite program coordination duties in relation to the City's recreation services programs. General knowledge of a variety sports is desired and the ability to step in to officiate and instruct is desired. Candidates will be managing game day operations and report to the Recreation Coordinator.

This position will work primarily during the weekends with additional hours available during weekdays, and will work between 10-20 hours per week.


Essential Functions

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
  • Provides a safe environment for all participants
  • Enforces all general building and facility policies
  • Communicates program activities and needs to supervisor
  • Completes any necessary reports and forms (i.e., Accident Report, Attendance Record, Supply Requests, etc.)
  • Able to perform officiating, scorekeeping, coaching, and instructing responsibilities as needed
  • Assists in planning, organizing, supervising, implementing and evaluating a variety of recreation classes.
  • Responsible for preparation for program activities; prepares lesson plans, organizes relative equipment; may be required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction.
  • Attends scheduled meetings as required; makes supervisor aware of any customer, equipment, or facility needs.
  • Provides direct supervision of support staff, ensuring that the goals and objectives of class or activity are met; assists in evaluation of work performed.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE: Maintains thorough knowledge of City and departmental rules and regulations; knowledge of specific sports program rules and interpretations; working knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of recreational program planning and development as well as the implementation and coordination of recreation programs.
SKILL: Demonstrates skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job. Prepares written reports and projects.
ABILITY: Plan and organize creative recreation programs and publications; control large groups of people; follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively to the participants; analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action to be taken; work with little or no supervision, as necessary; analyze and assess facility, equipment and weather safety hazards; write incident and accident reports, as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.
TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum one (1) year experience with recreation programs and facilities, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence of required knowledge, skills and abilities.


Special Requirements

Must hold current CPR/AED certification. Required to pass background investigation.

May be restricted to age requirement as specified by FSLA:
Ages 14-15 limited to: School in Session - 3 hours/day; 18 hours/week between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
(06/01 - Labor Day) School not in Session - 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week, no later than 9:00 PM.
