Primary Responsibilities:



  • Design, code and execute programs to extract, aggregate and manipulate pharmacy and medical claims from various sources in support of scientific and product development research
  • Develop new and maintain existing SAS programs to analyze healthcare claims to support ad hoc data requests
  • Analyze health care spend and utilization to identify key trend drivers, perform root cause analyses and data mining to evaluate medical cost savings opportunities
  • Develop methods, perform statistical analysis, and generate reports to answer research questions
  • Present progress, findings, and analysis to executive and clinical leaders
  • Lead projects focused on database creation, statistical modeling, and financial reports
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, ideas and information relating to data analyses

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, economics, public health, data analytics or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in SAS, R, Stata, Matlab, SPSS, or similar
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL
  • 2+ years of healthcare experience including analysis of medical and pharmacy claims data
  • Ability to execute multi-step data management tasks, recognize and solve technical problems with limited oversight



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Advanced degree
  • Experience working with medical and pharmacy claims
  • Experience with machine learning techniques including advanced modeling such as gradient boosted and random forest models
  • Experience thinking critically and interpreting results for business applications
  • Experience with Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with track record of collaboration with colleagues

Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, or New York City Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada/New York City residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
