This job provides individualized, direct patient care in the form of ophthalmic photography and/or other diagnostic testing of assigned patients under supervision of a coordinator and/or physician. Responsible for assisting in the implementation and evaluation of the delivery of ophthalmological care services and assisting the patient and family in the restoration and maintenance of ophthalmic health care goals meeting organizational goals. Works closely with the coordinator in the implementation of policies, procedures and goals of the Clinic.

Education

Required - High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

Required - 2 years' experience with ophthalmic photography with: anatomy of the eye, physiology of the eye, pathology of the eye, pharmacology, patient management, printing digital images, general photography, digital photography, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography

Certifications

Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred - Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician

Certified Retinal Angiographer

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required patient information.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout required job processes.

  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, keyboard, and various software packages specific to role.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and a high standard of performance.

  • Ability to exhibit service orientation, conscientiousness, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility.

  • Ability to accurately obtain and transcribe patient related information in a neat and clear manner.

  • Strong decision making skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and be flexible to a changing and high volume department.

  • Ability to physically assist disabled patients from wheelchairs to exam chairs; must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time for patient care activities.

Job Duties

  • Basic knowledge of Ocular Photography and Ocular Anatomy-Perform all required photography techniques to document ocular pathologies, including fundus photography, angiography, slit lamp, stereo, external photography, specular microscopy, gonio photography, and OCT's.

  • Patient Education/Management/Service - Clearly explains to patients the procedure they will undergo so they are well informed and able to cooperate in the best way possible. Ensures proper logging of all pertinent information into photography database.

  • EPIC Responsibilities - Ensures all tests has a related order document all pertinent exam related information on the order when the test is completed. Closes all encounters on the PIX schedule at the end of the day.

  • Maintain OSHA / JCAHO Compliance - Compliance with all OSHA/JCHAPO regulations as related to photography procedures. Keeps all patient care areas, office area and dark room clean and in order.

  • Symphony Web Responsibilities - Ensures that both Symphony Web and Heidelberg eye explorer are up and running at the start of each day. Ensures that all test import correctly an all pages and images are there for physicians to view.

  • Provide Cross Coverage - Provides assistance with other clinic and visual field testing when needed.

  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

  • Other related duties as required.
