The Puyenpa family of companies are comprised of multiple SBA Certified Native American Tribal 8(a) and multi-certified organizations focused on delivering Information Technology, Management Consulting, and General Construction solutions to the Federal Government along with the Commercial Sector. We are actively seeking a HVAC Technician based in Norco, Ca. This is a Full time onsite position. This position will require an active DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Puyenpa team supporting our facilities contract at the Naval Surface Warfare Center. The main responsibilities of the role include:



  • Working with heating and cooling systems such as split systems, package units, air cooled chillers, chilled water fan coils, chilled water pumps, actuators, vav boxes, humidifiers. Dx cooling systems include heat pumps, gas furnaces, straight cool units anywhere from 1.5 tons to 40 tons. Chilled water systems anywhere from 25 tons to 300 tons with scroll, screw, reciprocating compressors.
  • Performs difficult installation tasks involving assembly, testing, calibrating, and adjusting of temperature control and environmental control systems such as air conditioning plants, air environmental control systems, air distribution systems and complex dual equipment cooling installations, specialized refrigerated warehouses and facilities, and evaporative mechanical ventilation, and dehumidification systems.
  • Installs new or repaired component and performs complex modifications of systems and components in accordance with applicable electrical publications and directives,
  • Maintain and repair specialized laboratory equipment such as fume hoods, deionized water systems, bio-clean systems, vacuum systems, cascade refrigeration systems, and laboratory sinks.


The qualified candidate will have the following knowledge and experience:



  • *U.S Citizen.
  • A SECRET level Security Clearance or the capability to receive one is required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in troubleshooting and maintaining commercial building/plant HVAC systems and their related equipment.
  • EPA certification (universal).
  • Must be able to read electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Requires skill in the use of technicians' tools such as electric meters, vacuum pumps, leak detectors, gauge sets, calibration devices, electronic testers, etc.
  • Must be able to run copper piping and PVC.
  • Must be able to organize work and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unit of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Understands and has knowledge of the refrigeration cycles to include: identifying components in advanced refrigeration circuits, understanding how each component works, diagnosing and correcting problems in the refrigeration circuit, using manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature chart and temperature measuring devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot.
  • Understands refrigeration recovery, evacuation and charging, understands the installation and sizing of refrigerant piping.
  • Must be able to identify components in heating system, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the heating system using a gas pressure test and other devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot and repair.
  • Understands and has sufficient knowledge of electron theory, how electricity travels, AC and DC currents, single phase and three phase circuits, and series and parallel circuits. Ability to read wiring advanced wiring diagrams. Knowledge of Ohms Law. Ability to use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values. Must be able to troubleshoot advanced electrical circuits.
  • Understands and has sufficient knowledge of the fundamentals of temperature and humidity measurement and control in air conditioning units. Understands the process of treating air so as to simultaneously control its temperature, humidity, cleanliness and distribution. Ability to use a psychometric chart to determine the results of mixing air having various properties.
  • Understands and has sufficient knowledge of all types of HVAC systems and how each component within the system operates in conjunction with the other components and how that impacts the overall operations of the system as a whole. These systems include but are not limited to air cooled, water cooled, hot water systems, chilled water systems, VAV systems, steam heating systems and building automation control systems. Requires knowledge to troubleshoot/repair scroll, screw compressors, fan shaft bearings/belts.
  • Requires knowledge to troubleshoot 30-240 ton chillers that are both air cooled and water cooled.
  • Knowledge of Windows operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Advanced heat load/loss calculations



Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or carry moderate weight (50-100lbs), sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, reach, repetitive hand motions, hear, speak, travel outside of the base. May experience prolonged and irregular work hours, and work with frequent interruptions.

  • Regularly assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned and communicating verbally, electronically and in physical written form up and down the chain of command, (80% of the workday).
