Job Summary Paradise Valley Community College is seeking a Student Services Specialist who performs technically demanding financial aid processing and student service duties, responds to complex problems and inquiries, assist with the administration of specific financial aid programs, and assist with student activities that help promote student enrollment, persistence, retention, and completion. This in-person position will have significant responsibility for assisting and counseling students and parents regarding financial aid applications, verification, and maintaining eligibility as well as the consistent implementation of state and federal regulations, policies and procedures. This role works on campus with a diverse population of administrators, faculty, staff, students and the public to include giving presentations and assisting with outreach activities. Essential Functions 50% Review financial aid applications for accuracy and completeness; process financial aid applications including verification, determination of need, disbursement of financial aid, awarding of funds (according to established regulations), as well as editing of previous awards; monitor continued eligibility; process various reports required to perform core job duties, review and make decisions on student aid appeals; review and make decisions on professional judgement appeals. 20% Assist students with the financial aid process from initial application to disbursement. Counsel students, parents, college staff and community members on policies, procedures, and processes; resolving difficult inquires and/or complaints and responds to a variety of general inquiries/requests. 20% Participate in, or facilitate various on and off-campus events including presentations, training sessions or workshops related to the financial aid process, student enrollment, persistence, retention, and completion. 10% May serve as a back-up certifying official for Veteran Education Benefits. May perform other duties as assigned commensurate with the level of this position. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Desired Qualifications 1. Two (2) or more years full-time work experience performing financial aid award processing. 2. Experience providing customer services to students and/or parents on policies, procedures and processes related to the enrollment process and/or financial assistance. 3. Experience working in a college/university one-stop student services environment. 4. Experience using online or web-based technology in delivery of programs and services. 5. Experience developing and/or facilitating presentations or trainings. 6. Bilingual; all languages welcome - Spanish desired Special Working Conditions
