Ultrasound Tech/PRN with On Call Hours

Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs general sonograms, echocardiograms and vascular studies to include 2D and Doppler modes. Follows protocols of the Department for each study performed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Reports to work station on time and as scheduled and remains at work station until relieved for lunch or end of shift.
  • Position patients and adjusts equipment for each procedure.
  • Instruct patient regarding procedures.
  • Follow prescribed safety standards.
  • Maintain examination rooms.
  • Follow confidentiality standards.
  • Participates in standby for modalities assigned and scheduled. When on-call paged, a prompt call is made to the hospital to determine the study to be done. Travel time to report in for the study will be kept within twenty-five (25) minutes
  • Scrub uniforms, clean and pressed, will be worn at all times when on duty unless otherwise directed by the Radiology Director or designee.
  • Completes all necessary forms for each study conducted and coordinates each study with the requesting physician or in their absence, follows instructions on the request form/transmission and checks each order against the physician's order prior to beginning the exam.
  • Checks arm band on each patient for proper identification.
  • Follows Lubbock Heart Hospital policies for time and attendance recording.
  • Participates in quality improvement and quality control projects as assigned.
  • Follows departmental policies and protocols for each exam performed.
  • Maintains licensure and/or certification(s) for all modalities assigned.
  • Is responsible for maintaining supplies in their assigned area and follows Lubbock Heart Hospital policies for ordering and gathering supplies.
  • Participates in inventories of supplies as assigned.
  • Reports any mechanical or system problems to the Director or designee.
  • Demonstrates initiative in their work habits while maintaining a professional demeanor with all hospital staff, guests, visitors, patients and physicians.
  • Efficiently goes about all duties assigned and works toward maintaining budgetary goals.
  • Is aware of incident occurrences within their work area and reports within twenty-four (24) hours to their supervisor using the proper form(s).
  • Handles patient complaints in accordance with Lubbock Heart Hospital policy.
  • Assists in the development of new CPT codes for the purpose of the Lubbock Heart Hospital and Department Charge Masters
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures within their assigned modalities.


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED



  • Demonstrates through competency checklist(s), their ability to perform the duties assigned within the department.
  • Know the definitions of fundamental computer terms related to applications software and desktop PC's
  • Know how to open, read, and respond to email
  • Know how to manage electronic files
  • Know how to print electronic documents and reports


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED



  • Has successfully completed an accredited course for national and/or state registry or has successfully gained licensure/certification(s) eligibility through experience.


LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION



  • RDMS or RDCS registration is required for performing general ultrasound and echocardiograms without the direct supervision of a registered technologist.
  • RVT is required to perform vascular studies without the direct supervision of a registered technologist.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.


ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Maintains excellent personal hygiene in accordance with Lubbock Heart Hospital policies.
  • Is well groomed in accordance with Lubbock Heart Hospital
  • Cleans patient exam tables and work area surfaces with a disinfectant furnished by housekeeping and places clean linen before next exam.
  • Is capable of transporting a patient from any area of the hospital via wheelchair or stretcher to and from Radiology.
  • Is capable of moving portable equipment to and from exam areas.
  • Is capable of lifting supplies necessary to perform the examinations assigned and carrying the supplies from storage areas to area of use.
  • Is capable of bending over, kneeling to perform duties assigned.
  • Lifts using safe methods to prevent back injuries.
  • Is capable of pushing supply carts used in the department.
